I've recently swapped my TVR 350C for a 350Z. There are many things I like about the Nissan and its fairly quick but it needs a few more bhp as it feels a bit lazy especially low down. Any options/advice

I know Middlehust do a supercharger kit but thats 5k and my warrenty/resale gone out the window. No what I'm after is to have it breathed on to about 300bhp and a bit more torque without affecting the warrenty etc. (its about 275 right ??. Surely someone out there does a chipthat would see me straight.

I read in a car mag (Evo possibly, I think the car of the Year issue) about Nismo upgrades to the 350Z. They liked it a lot, if I remember correctly there were three stages of tune, and they had the lowest one. See if you can get past Evos and have a look. It was definately in one of the last three issues.

Try having a look round on www.sxoc.com I heard one of the traders sourced a Nismo exhaust for a 350Z the other week. Also worth trying www.gtr.co.uk.

Hey Apex.....I to switched from a t350 to a 350z.....love the nissan (much more confidence in it not breaking down/blowing up/falling apart) but like you I yearn for more power ......I am curently looking at the possipility of getting a vortech supercharger....an extra 110bhp and no bonnet mods needed!! looks like its gonna cost abot £3200 all in....but am awaitng confirmation

snazza, I know where you're coming from. Seems to be quite a few of us early 350 guys have moved on (Bennno, Flasher, yourself to name a few)

I know Evo are running a car (Tomalian's pieces for Performance Car on the Griff in the early 90's led me to buying one) and am hoping that they mod it with some Nismo bits justs to give it an edge. I'll never be TVR fast in a straight line (not much would) but it feels unburstable....

Let me know how you get on with the Supercharger route..

Apex.

In one of the magazines recently there was an article about a company who supercharge them (may have been evo).

I remember thinking that it was good value for the amount of horse power you got.

Sorry can't be more specific as I cant remember the company or the cost.

They did seem very entusiastic about the conversion.

Hi Gazboy,

I see your point, and agree that the Nissan won't ever be a TVR 350C, if I wanted that I wouldn't have sold the TVR in the first place.

My point is that most "global" cars are setup to meet a compromise. ECU's setting have to deal with global fuel grades, temp and altitude ranges, not to mention emission and noise regs.

On that basis and given that I'll run the car on premium fuel and there aren't too many Everest Ranges in Europe I was hoping that the ECU could be optimised for UK/Europe conditions to release some cheap additional power.

AMD did this on my 993 (in conjunction with a sports exhaust), and also on an earlier 944. The 993 was specced at c.280 bhp out of the box but was raised to c.300 through this route and felt much sharper into the mix.

Granted not a lot, but cheap to do and its nice to know you've got something a little extra up your sleeve when you may need it.

try these websites for lots of info

www.350zuk.com
www.my350z.com

No one has cracked the 350z ECU for the UK to my knowledg. But gains can be made with air filter exhaust, free flow cats, UR pulleys etc but the set up is pretty well optimized from the factory. It costs big £ to get decent NA gains. FI may be the way to go.
