There was a recall affecting cylinder block oil jets, or something like that, carried out by Honda FOC, and they issued an extra years warranty on the engine IIRC correctly, other than that nothing to worry about..... its a Honda for christ sake!

dude,

The following recalls should be done on MY99 – MY01

Roof tonneau cover Pre MY01? check with dealer / Honda UK
Seatbelt safety recall Pre MY01? check with dealer / Honda UK
Spark plugs replaced
Engine oil bolt replaced Honda should extend your engine warranty by one year after the oil bolt recall

Recalls can be checked on the Honda UK website www.honda.co.uk/owner/serviceRecalls.jsp

other than that, make sure it's had its 9k mile service inteval fullfilled. Interim oil changes every 4.5k are a bonus...

where is the car or whose is it? maybe be an s2k member...

I think the early cars had some clutch problems and there was an uprated clutch fitted. Worth checking out the s2k website as Neilsie suggests. They've got all the info you'll need.

Brilliant, just read that whole thread.
The car is on 35,000miles so if it's 9K service intervals am I right in presuming it needs a service?

Possibly - it's 9000 miles or 12 month intervals - whichever comes first. Some people don't do loads of miles so the servicing can get out of sync with mileage. All should be revealed by the Honda Main Dealer stamped logbook.

Make sure the spark pug recall has been done. It hadn't on mine and 2 weeks after i bought it one of the spark plugs fell into the engine!
resulting in a new engine and exhaust under warranty.

other than that no problems
S2Ki is a fantastic resource, a lot more useful than the dealers!
Make sure its got the proper tyres on it, the chap i bought mine off had put cheap ones on and it was a little lary to say the least, having the proper ones has transformed it.

Right so I saw the car earlier. It was a demo honda car for the first 18 months, so can assume the recalls would have been done in that period?
The seller had no idea if any recalls have been done.

Right, the services are all main dealer stamped, at
9000, 18,000 22,000 & the car is @ 36,000miles now.
The last service was in 2002. So has the car missed a service??
Otherwise the car is pristine & I can get it for good money.
I am thinking of getting the seller to put it through a service before purchase!

Any comments??

Cheers
Phil

Is the dealer a Honda dealer? If he is he really ought to be easily able to find out about whether recalls have been done - it's important that they have. If he's not a main dealer I would have thought he should be resourceful enough to find out. Definitely get the service done to the Honda schedule, the 36000 service is one of the bigger ones and really needs to be done to spec. The car's probably fine but worth firming up a bit more on its history. Any chance of contacting the previous owner? Good luck, if you get one you'll love it.
