Toyota Supra (mk 2??) info please
Discussion
Still looking for a replacement for my dead Capri, and as I'm not having much luck finding a decent 200SX at an affordable price (good ones seem to sell quickly) I'm considering alternatives.
One is the late 80s/early 90s model Supra (normally aspirated) as these also fall within my very limited budget. There also happens to be a one owner example locally with a low mileage replacement engine.
Any specific info about what to look for and what goes wrong (goes wrong - Toyota? ) with these cars gratefully received.

Head gaskets, about the only problem. Due to warped heads I believe.
Check coolant is red (toyota spec) & it warms up on time & runs to the right point.
Check for rust coloured rad leaks & milky stuff in the oil/rocker cover.
Other than that bombproof
The cooling sustem is the achilles heal on these (less so though with non-turbo).... Only cylinder head ever to get taken off a Toyota
There were two previous models, A Hatchback and I am sure there was another one aswell.
The MK3's are known for blowing their Headgaskets.
I had a fright coming of the M25 onto the A13 roundabout last week when steam started pouring from under the bonnet and the temp gauge went shooting up.
I opened the bonnet to see steam and water jetting out from somewhere near the turbo.
My Dad came down with torch and Tools and we found out it was only a water pipe to the Turbo had gone.
Mine had already had about 3k's worth of work done before I got it due to a Blown Head Gasket.
It had a new Turbo & Crankshaft amongst other things.

Dunno,
was there one before the 'Celica Supra' ? (it was called that, or am I going mad?)
I think so. What does Supra mean?
Yup. There was one "sports line" called the Celica.
They then made a couple of generations where the hot one was called a Celica Supra.
Decided it was a good idea, so mid 80's (celica 4th gen) the line split. Celica became a 'lightweight' FWD coupe and the Supra was the bigger faster brother......
