Hi,

I was recently in a little bit of a heated debate with my friend over which one was better... Not long after I got my Ignis he went and bought a Swift sport. We've both had a drive of each anothers cars and we like both very much... But then we had the debate and he says that the swift is better to drive and could beat the ignis in every aspect...

arguments for the Ignis

Feels rawer which makes the drive more exciting
Has standard Recaro's seats and Enkei wheels.
Produces less power yet still has the same 0-60 stats as the swift.
Its lighter therefore easier to push round the bendies
Its won Junior Rally Championships.
Its less mainstream and more of an acquired taste!

arguments for the Swift

Newer and more refined
Smoother sleeker look so more appealing to all crowds
Feels safer and more stable
Doesnt look like a postman pat van!
More power and more top speed (not that i'd be used)
Slightly more grunt after you've reached 60

Overall both feel like fun light warm hatches which is quick! Both are cheap to buy and insure, with not much running costs either!

Anyone have any other thoughts?

Anyone else had the same argument or have experienced both?

I think the swift is better looking, but to be fair there isnt much in it. Swift has about 20bhp more but about 150kg heavier.

Why not settle it on the drag strip or trackday? smile

Not driven the Ignis but have been really impressed with our Swift Sport. Its a joy to drive and the handling is great. I like the idea of the Ignis being a bit of a Q car.

I did the 2004 London to Sydney Marathon (a full on International speed event with over 800 miles of closed road Stages!)in a very standard Ignis Sport. Bought used with 6000 on the clock, we took out the back seats & airbags, put in a full FIA roll cage, fitted alloy sump & tank guards, top & bottom front strut braces & a Terratrip, two spare wheels and off we went!
Apart from the owner rolling one & a half times on the last but one day, we won the class & didn't touch ANYTHING. The car was straightened out on return to the UK (no insurance claim, so no marks on the V5!) The owner used it as an everyday car until he, sadly, died a few years later.
Fantastic, strong little car...I reckon the performance was similar to a Twin cam Cortina (about 115 bhp & weighed just over a ton!), but 5 speed box & aircon!!biggrin

Well one of the reasons i bought the ignis (apart for raving reviews) was due to the fact of its Junior rallying routes!!! Some may argue that because they entered so many cars into the comp that it would be surprising they didnt win, but its still quite an achievement!!!

My Mechanic, ever since i got it, has loved the ignis and is waiting to find one cheaper and prep it for hill climbs!!! He loves the way it handles, how revhappy it is, and how rare it is!!! but think he might be a little dettered now, due to class separations i think it makes it to the 1.4-1.8l class, and having 1.8's against the 1.5 aint that fun! biggrin

I've had 20+ cars in the last 17 years (I reached 1,000,000 driving miles in 2011).
The ignis reminds me of the Alfa Sud, Peugeot 106 Rallye. I've done 90,000 in my current 2005 sport and prefer it over my Subaru Legacy Spec-B Estate for daily driving. Fun and Smiles every mile. smile. I also converted it to LPG so I do 250 miles (a day or more) for less than £20.00.

Winner.

The Ignis Sport is mapped for super unleaded. The car will run on standard 95 RON though if you must.

The Swift is better, the Ignis is more fun.

That answer the question?
