Hello,
I've never posted in the Jap Chat section before, so please be gentle you banzai mad lot
Anyway on to my point, now i've been looking around at a possible new car, and one that has stood out is the Honda Integra type R. Now i dont know alot about this car other than it looks like fun, so i was wondering if you guys (and gals) had any input on the idea, or other similar options in the world of Jap cars, bearing in mind i wouldnt want to spend much more than 10K, being stuck in a crap job and all.
Thnaks in advance
Andy

Hi Andy,
I had an ITR for a couple of years and really regretted selling it, which I did because of the depreciation - something that is not really an issue on a 10k motor.
I had a great time with my 'Teg - it takes a while to get the hang of the VTEC you really have to drive it like a hooligan to get the most out of it. Many times I had passengers ask me 'is it supposed to do that' or 'does that damage the engine' obviosly after screaming. The tyres are cheap, cheap to service and great fun. Highly recommended, but make sure you test drive on first as there is a love/hate thing with VTEC.
Look out for wear and tear on the interior, particularly the seat bolsters and suspension damage and uneven tyre wear. Evo did a buyers guide a while back which you may be able to find on the web.
Also check out www.hondarevolutions.com for loads of info.
Enjoy!
Nik

I was wondering the same thing about a year ago. There is a thread in General Gassing I posted asking the same.

I did get one, but only kept it for a couple of months as I didn't buy a particuarly good example and got an excellent trade-in offer against a new Civic Type-R. Live and learn and all that...
Have a look at http://forum.hondarevolutions.com for all the info you could ever possibly require.
Summing up, they are probably the best handling front wheel drive car ever made, not a surfeit of grip over handling like the CTR. I preferred the Teg to my CTR, and would definitely still have the Teg if I had a bought a good one. The LSD is awesome, something the CTR is lacking severly. Suspension is very firm, and the old VTEC engines are a bit all or nothing on or off cam. Insurance is steep (group 18) and they are fairly heavy on fuel if driven properly (20ish mpg) and they prefer super or optimax.
D'oh - beaten to it with the revolutions website.

LOL, you got to be quick round here!!!
The other side of the fuel consumption thing is you can get 40mpg out of it if you need to (I did during the fuel strikes) unlike other performance cars.
Here is the Evo buyers guide.

Bought one had it for about a month now.
40mpg are you kidding? not if you keep it above 6k revs you don't which is what you have to do every single gear change a) for the noise and b) for it to go anywhere.
Pros:-Brakes fantastic, steering fantastic. Reliabilty 9 k rev limit
cons:- No torque. errr
Handling still getting used to it. I think its the kind of car that you grow into it takes a while to understand its capabilities.
The torque thing was what I noticed at first but Ive been dring turbo's for years.
Take one for an extended test drive. I'm sure you will love and for 10k I cant think of much else worth getting.

Hi Mr E Nice GT 4 you have there.
when I said I couldnt think of much else I was not including your car as I don't feel it s in the same class.
I was thinking of normaly asperated FWD cars and so that would probably be the Cleo 172 and maybe a racing Puma.
I concidered getting a GT4 but decided against it for running cost reasons. My heavy right foot and turbo's don't mix well
I put them in the same group as Scoobies and evo's of this world. i.e 4WD and 240Bhp
