Why is Jap chat so boring?
Having been a TVR owner for a few years I have really enjoyed the banter on the cerbera ets station(s).
I now own a P1. It is a fab machine. Very different to a TVR. A bit like I have merged with Grand Turismo rather than hairy arsed driving though in some ways!?!? Not that that is bad - just different.
I have had a look on this site, on SIDC and on P1WOC. What is all this lexus lights, base bins, giving it large etc..... stuff about. Think I might have to stay on the TVR pages for my fix!!??

I know what you're saying, I looked at some of the Subaru fora and decided I'd need a Burberry baseball cap and lobotomy to fit in.
As well as gazboy's comment, it may be due to the massive (potential) variety of cars spread between a few PHers, rather than the TVR's 2 engines (or variants - you'll probably need to correct me) and similar dynamics.

I think the CRX crowd must be the exception then.
At www.Hondacrx.co.uk there is a very PH like attituded to MaxMuppetry and a high priority given to the presveration of the species whilst still using the cars for what they were designed: DRIVING!
There are even a few familar posters on there from PH.
I reckon if you to visit S2K, NSX or Skyline fora it might be different as the cars are more exclusive.
The high profile and the realatively low cost of older EVO/STi cars means they attract all the easily swayed knobbers who just want to be seen in a flash car who just hack cars up for the sake of it, as well as those, like you, that bought car beacuse of it's powers as a tool in the right hands...
...if you see what I mean...
...and sadly you end up talking to them through the dedicated forma.
Slightly O/T but I have just been introduced to www.turbonutters.com and been impressive by the general lack of presiding "Blingness" on there.
Worth a look, maybe.

I think there has been alot of negative chat towards the rice rocket brigade in the past on PH. I think there's a begrudging respect starting to form now, but it's been a long time coming.
Anyway, welcome to the P1 world. ;-)
Hopefuly I wont shame us at Bruntingthorpe then!
112mph is going to scare them silly :P
Picture the scene, Arnage village, the evening after Bentley had won the Le Mans 24 Hour, there are loads of V6/8/12 monsters doing rorty smoking burnouts down the road to wild pi55ed up applause, then some chap in a scoob turned up and did a few runs.
Nobody really took any notice, there were a few mild insults, and the bloke eventually got bored and moved on.(I think some tit actually threw something at his car which I thought was out of order whatever the circumstances).
Thing is, scoobs etc.. are good, they do standing starts without too much fuss and go very quickly, and they are affordable(ish) and therefore available to a wider user group.
But IMHO they don't generate the same amount of passion as a full on V8 tyre smoking monster.(That's why I just parked up and soaked up the atmosphere)
The TVR section on this site is more about what you drive, pistonheads and General gassing in particular seems to be less about what you drive, more about how you drive it....and long may it continue
If I want to talk scoobs I go on Scoobynet, if I want to talk petrolhead, I come here!

I think it because nothing breaks or goes wrong too...
Plus most of the Jap cars have specific sites that have far more people & replies on.
Ted: Can we change this to a drifting forum maybe, its starting off big time I think, mostly jappo lads but the Tiv brigade would be good at it too.

Ah, a MR2 turbo . . . the exception to the rule . . .
Well it is a 10+ year old car running significant boost.
Athough I'm running just over a bar of boost on a 8 year old car, and *nothing* has fallen off yet. 3S-GTE is generally pretty bomb proof. Until you turn the boost up without laying the ground first.
My P1 has been utterly reliable in comparison to the Griff.
The one thing that the scoob misses, and in a way I am agreeing with one of the posts above, is the sound of the V8 - even the off beat sound of the scoob (which is better than all other 4 pots) doesn't match the Griff in any way, shape or form.
But I reckon those who have a constant whinge about the scoobs haven't driven one. There was a similar post in Jap cat recently, and lo and behold, the poster hadn't driven one. Even those who haven't an interest should try it for curiosity's sake. I think you'll be surprised - even if you're not converted. I remember AndrewD was honestly surprised at Folembray at the pace of the P1.
But as for passion, well it's whatever flicks your switch. I think alot of that for a number of petrolheads is the sound. And the 4 pot brigade just can't really do that. Personally I live with it and enjoy the thrill of the drive without the calamitous bills, depreciation and time away from the garage.

Reason for JapChat being boring is probably coz we like to run the ricerocket instead of chatting about it?!

yep, love the sound, esp with an aftermarket exhaust.
they are pretty rapid and do handle well too, esp when its wet and you have to tread carefully in a tvr!

Nobody really took any notice,
I took my 200 to Pistonfest and although it looked good, it didn't really get noticed (not surprising really when you consider what was there), until I put it on the rollers.
There were a couple of Chimera's in the queue behind me and when the 200 started popping, banging and flaming the tvr owners started to pay a bit more attention - 'mine doesn't do that', 'loud init' etc. Best bit was the 200 happy power at the wheels figure which was higher than the TVR that went on next. Hopefully they will pay a bit more attention to boring Jap cars next time!!!
Different forums for different things I guess. I've always read Pistonheads, not posted that much, but I do like the generally intelligent conversation you get on here.
As a moderator on Scoobynet, I've seen a lot of changes over the last 3 or 4 years. The membership has grown significantly (currently more than 30000) - in some ways it is a victim of it's own success.
I love the cars (owned 2 Scoobs and will be getting a new STI soon), I've made good friends through the 'scene', had some great trips (Nurburgring and the Catalunya Rally stand out) and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
All cars and makes have some kind of image and I must admit to dispairing at the way the Impreza seems to have gone down hill over the last year. I would like to totally distance myself from the muppets with their Scoobs slammed to the deck and neon tips on the washer jets and wheels (what is that all about? - perhaps I'm getting old). The Burberry brigade can go jump off the nearest cliff as far as I am concerned. They add nothing to the Jap car scene.
On any forum there is always a level of 'background noise', you just have to look through that and find the genuine enthusiasts. There are still plenty of those around. The changes that have been on Scoobynet recently have improved things, but it will never be the same as it was a few years back.
