Shock Horror! My tyres are bald!!!!
Discussion
I cant beleive it!
6 weeks ago my tyres were well above the 3mm minimum tread depth and 2 weeks ago, last time I did my pressures they were seemingly fine.
After 3 days of noises coming from front wheel area, I thought, I'd better check them and they are almost bald all around the outside rim of both front tyres! (back ones are fine)
So its a trip down the garage for two new tyres and tracking tommorrow morning
Couple of questions though... what knocks the tracking out? I am presuming bumps/potholes in the roads, but not knowing anything about cars, dont laugh at me if I am wrong.
Secondly... would bald tyres be causing noises? Have had noises like spinning high pitched tones, spinning scraping noises and when I turned the corner today it sounded like my brake pads were low

I am hoping that these noises are connected to the tyre problem and that I dont need to get these investigated
I'm just going to do a search on the forums now for some tyre threads

Di,
tyres can cause those noises when low, my 5's old set of toyos made some awful noises after a North Weald experience day.
Tracking/alignment on a 5 is a bit different from a normal car in that the front adjusts for camber, castor and toe, and the rear adjusts for camber and toe. Don't bother taking it to a high street tyre centre, they wont have a clue, either take it to a mazda garage or a sports car specialist. Check this page out www.hummingbirds.net/alignment.html it explains it all!
As for tyres Goodyear F1's, Toyo T1-s proxies are both held in high regard by the mx5 community.
HTH!

Completely agree with what Ben said.
To add to the list, Goodyear Eagle Ventura's also come recommended by some (although I've never tried them myself). I'm currently on my 3rd set of Toyo Proxes and I'd recommend them They are excellent, particularly in the wet, and wet weather performance should be your priority in a light(ish) weight RWD car like the '5.
When I bought my last set, mytyres.net were way cheaper than anywhere else. Got them delivered direct to a local fitter (listed on mytyres site) who fitted them for £5 a corner. Happy days!

After reading threads, decided on Venturas, after all, its whats on the car now and that has been fine so far.
The other makes, Toyo T1 and the GY F1's didnt come in my size.
Ordered 3 of them, £40 each which is inclusive of vat and balancing having them fitted tommorrow.
Going for proper wheel alignment, Mazda garage couldnt fit me in for a few weeks so going to a place that does my friends cars (maxxed up escorts and porkers) apparently they have quite a good reputation in Bedford. Will cost me 50 plus vat for a 4 wheel alignment. Having that done on Monday.
