Is there such a thing as an STI Wagon / estate on the later pre-hatchback cars, say 2005 onwards, obviously there is the 2.5 WRX which looks good enough but what about an STI?

I’ve recently got myself a 2005 WRX with the Prodrive pack on it which is proving an ideal little wintertime steer but seeing as this is Pistonheads and the quest for ‘more’ is never ending I was interested to know what other options might exist without going down the new hatchback route?

Unfortunately not, the last STi wagon was the Ver.7 (bugeye). There is a newer Forester STI though, and the Legacy GTB.

These V7 STi wagons are rare little buggers. Very few indeed ever come up for sale in the UK so you could probably import one in very nice condition if that's what you want. One came up on eBay a while back but as usual i didn't have the dosh to just buy it, but i would have done so if the timing was better!!

Here's a sticky one.....Did they ever bring out a hotter than STi wagon??

I could imagine an S202 wagon...oh baby!! cloud9

I don't know of any really special wagons - some folk think the Type SA classic wagon is like a Type-RA sedan but they're wrong, its just a very basic spec WRX AFAIK. The 'Gravel Express' versions are pretty cool in a funny way but still just WRX mechanicals not STi.

They only made the S401 Legacy in sedan form too frown Though at 280bhp a regular GTB isn't exactly sluggish anyway tongue out

One of these days i'll get over to NZ and then you'll have to take me out in your rapid Legacy on one of those lovely empty coastal roads. I'll make sure i bring my laptop and a cable wink

True biggrin

Those V.7 STi wagons are nice though. You get the bullet proof STi engine, suspension and 6spd gearbox ready to rock & roll as std and that alone is worth more than you would pay for the car as a whole. For me to make my wagon more STi with similar suspension setup and the 6spd, Brembo brakes etc... is still big bucks. I think i'd rather have an original STi wagon, just mildly tweak it, and retire mine to bigger and better things. biggrin

thumbup

Happy to introduce you to some gravel roads in the MX5 as well hehe

To be honest I'd be pretty tempted to have an Impreza over the Legacy myself if I didn't use the extra space so often.

I do like the later STI's, I have to admit that the 1st money no object mod i would do to my Wagon it a 6spd gearbox from one. The next after that would be a touring car size petrol tank so i could finally get more that 230miles to a tank! biggrin

I make 350bhp and see 300miles from a tank on a run. You can reduce that by 60-80miles when you take into account a mix of town and country driving with plenty of wide open throttle pulls and fast roading when the time is right. That's not bad at all.

On the flipside i've seen 6-7mpg on a trackday, but it was fun while it lasted!! biggrin

I have seen my trip reading 74miles after an entire tank of super has gone, but lets face it, i didn't buy her for economy runs. driving
I can get reasonable results, 280+mile to a tank on long steady journeys, but they don't happen often. biggrin

Many thanks for the input, so in essence having ducked and dived my way through a veritable raft of acronyms the last rapid Wagon was the GB270?

That said there aren’t any actually available!

There are two GB270 wagons on this page of Autotrader. Notice there are a few 4dr saloons but only two 5drs. Methinks people are holding on to their wagons!!

Quick buy both and have one spare!! biggrin

Bugeye STI 'Wagons are equally rare in Japan. The model was dropped because no one bought one!

That and they only made a 100 wagons but 500 saloons.
Best of the bunch in opinion but I'm more than happy with the standard 2.5 in ours now.

Recently I've been looking and researching STi wagon/estate (98-2000) and would love to hear from someone who owned one. They seem to have a proper performance, good engine size for motor tax, practicality, etc...their look is a hate or love it. I personally love the way they look stock.
