Any owners out there who can give me a rough idea of fuel consumption of a bog standard UK Scooby (Classic shape) on around a W-reg. I know that these cars and economy don't come hand in hand but I was interested all the same.

This may help me in my current choice dilemma.

TIA

Err. Probably 33 ish on a m/way.
25 ish with general driving.
Piss all if you're on a mission.

(I have seen sub 15mpg on a couple of occasions)

For an N reg turbo, I consistently got 18MPG (best was 24)
For my X reg P1 I get about 24MPG average (best about 30)

Thanks guys.

Just comparing to my old M3 which used to get around 35mpg in sixth on a Motorway run and bugger all when flooring it. I am considering a Scooby purchase next and am just trying to justify it over a TDi at the moment (to the missus anyway)

Sold mine and am looking for a TDi........£400 a month on fuel gets tedious after a couple of months, especially if you pay for it yourself.

I've been thinking about an RB5 - given that sort of fuel consumption, what sort of range do you get? I'd like to get at least 300 motorway miles between fill-ups.

My 2000/W UK turbo got about 26 mpg. So there not great on fuel, considering thats a combine cycle too. I don't think I ever got anywhere near the manufactuers figures

It does vary alot. For example a gentle motorway run once saw 260 miles from a full tank, an average week 200-220 miles. But when I worked shifts, the roads were empty and what usually lasted a week lasted 3 days! 160 miles

I currently cruise around in a Golf GT TDi and I go weeks rather than days between fillups! Average 48 mpg, even with my lead foot. It's saving me a fortune, hopefully will buy something more exciting for the summer.

300? no chance, especially if it's the 240 bhp RB5! I would imagine that would tear through a tank quicker than a standard 218 bhp car.

It's not just the contstant re-fueling that is annoying. But getting caught at petrol stations that don't sell super unleaded! At first I just understood a slight performance loss while running the on premium. But if driven on premium it had a tendancy to switch the "engine check" light on

So you end up putting a £5 in and pottering down the road to the next station in the hope it's a BP or Esso and not a ing supermarket.

Had a UK Spec (215BHP) X-reg one and it was almost as thirsty as my Corvette!

I always thrashed it so no surprise really. Did about 23 MPG on average.

I used to get around 18-20 out of my standard UK turbo. I think the P1 is a little better at around 22 so I have the same experience as Craig.

Bank on about 180 miles range, up to 220 on the motorway but that's it.

My UK turbo was the older model which retarded the timing when you put premium unleaded into it. It would then require a full ECU reset to advance the timing when you used super unleaded again. In the P1 and more recent UK turbos the car regularly tries to advance the ignition by itself and will return to full power after about 30-40 miles.

You guys must all drive yours really sensibly I used to get 14.9mpg out of my UK spec 2000 V reg (measured over 4 weeks). Worrying, I got even less (14.5mpg) when my ex girlfriend was sharing the driving! Mind you, all it was used for was commuting to and from work absolutely flat out, mostly cross country with a bit of spirited town driving.

veetwin,

What's your annual mileage? If it's high enough, it may pay you to buy a TDI for the commute AND an Impreza for wk end fun! ..as compared to running an Impreza for the commute, anyway.
