Few questions:
1) Why do some Mk2's have taller number plates instead of standard ones- are they the Japanese imports?
2) I heard that a certain type of Mk2 can hit 60 in 5.2 secs, something to do with being a certain revision engine, and having certain mod's. What is the fastest Mk2? (exluding nos'd and other such types)
3) Also, what's the best/reliable/economical way to pick up one of these? I also heard something about importing from Dublin being a good idea! What's that all about?
4)Also could someone just clarify the difference between a g-limited and a gt
Cheers

*All* MR2 turbos are Jap imports, and are very likely to have a square rear plate.
All are 3S-GTE powered (great engine). There are 3 revisions.
Anything later than 94 *should* have a 3rd generation engine, bigger brakes and revised suspension. That'll be the quick one. 240ish bhp. Same lump as the ST205 GT-Four.
3S-GTE responds rather well to tuning. Although the biggest issue the MR2 has is cooling when you turn the boost up.
I wouldn't bother sourcing one from Dublin. Any decent Jap Imported can get them. Paul from www.whifbitz.co.uk can probably source one to order.

So what are the g-limited & gt versions?
You're all wrong, G-limited comes in 155hp n/a and 200hp turbo (MR E was right here), any extras were paid for by the first owner (sunroof, aircon, stereo etc) Blue cloth seats.
GT also came in 158-173bhp n/a (this is the uk car) and 225-245bhp turbo (import) leather seats, aircon, leccy sunroof, CD player in later models.
GT T bar, also both engines and NA was the uk car, turbo's gained seude and leather seats.
GTS The lightweight car, about 85kilo's lighter, hardly any soundproffing, lower, stiffer, comes in red, black, and white only (IIRC) air con is the only luxury item, rubbish stereo and black recaro's (no badge).
TRD2000 Based on rev 4 GTS, white or red, fixed seats, about 265bhp.
TRD2000GT Based on rev 5 GTS, has a wide body kit, 18 inch alloys, TRD coilover suspension, 350bhp, 900kg white only, the holy grail (andymac has pics of a car with this kit on)
thats the beast, that id have (if i could find one).
didnt know it only came in white though. any ideas on price for one of these?
TRD is a beast! Looks feck all like a tubby, and more like a Le mans creature! If you can get one, then get it... If you don't...you deserve to be strung up from the highest yardarm in the fleet! (Watched M. on the Bounty today! :-P )
