Yokohama A539's on the GT4 were dire. Terminal understeer, and in the wet they were lethal.

P6000 on the GT4 were better than the 539's but not anywhere as good as the Bridgestones.

Best tyre ive ever used/came across/can recommend Bridgestone Potenza s02.
Absolutlet transformed the grip, to the point that its easily possible to outcorner superbikes, i kid you not.

Yeah, I prefer the S02's than the S03's. Well, it was better for launching anyway!

Falken ZE502. Average at best in the dry, poor at best in the wet! However the Falken FK451 are a great budget tyre.

Camac. Had these on a mini once and they were truly nasty. Not only mediocre grip but sod all sidewall stiffness that made the car do a nasty lurch as you turned in.

Fulda Carat Extremo. Came on the back of my MR2 when I bought it. Grip was reasonably good in wet and dry, but the tread just melted away before my eyes. I think I got about 7000 miles out of them, compared to around 10-11k for Pirelli PZero Asymetrico's (my tyre of choice for the rear, as I can nearly always get them cheaper than the F1's and SO2's)

Unfortunately the S-02 PPs were only available in a 15" wheel size so if you've got 14" wheels you're stuffed. Shame that.

However, all is not lost! GoodYear Eagle Ventura tyres are available in 14", as I believe are Toyo Proxes T-1-S (although I'm not 100% sure)

The Ventura is a great tyre - we had them on both our MX-5s.

One to avoid is the Avon ZZ-3. Advantage - lasts forever. Disadvantage - at the expense of bugger all grip in the wet. Dry performance not bad though.

As with previous comments, the '5 is one of the easiest cars to catch when the back goes out (unless its on a roundabout in the frost, ahem) so find a nice empty carpark in the rain and learn the traction limits......

After prompting from Gazboy, here are some thoughts on Impreza (P1) tires (not everyone agrees with me BTW):
Handling is very dependant on the rubber, with different characteristics depending on the make - original Pirelli PZeros are good in the dry, but after about half of their life they get completely crap in the wet & make the car understeer like a pig.
Bridgestone SO3PPs were excellent from beginning to end of their life, in all conditions - these were tires that seemed completely suited to the character of the car, plenty of grip, slightly edgy, but loads of feedback.
I'm currently running Goodyear Eagle F1s, on recommendation from the Evo mag's test, & I find them cr*p - they are very woolly, & I get snaking under heavy braking. Yes they seem to have a very mild breakaway, but this doesn't seem to suit the car at all (when going round the corner on the limit, minor turns of the steering wheel seem to make no difference, although you can still adjust with throttle/brake.
