Beats Boxster and VX220 in used car awards
The Mazda MX-5 has been voted Best Sports Convertible of the Year 2004 by Used Car Buyer magazine's panel of 15 motoring journalists and industry experts in their Used Car of the Year Awards 2004.
The MX-5 took the annual honours beating close rivals Porsche Boxster and Vauxhall VX220. It was marked highest for fitness for purpose, value for money, running costs, reliability, residual value and image.
Last year was an all-time record year for the Mazda MX-5 in the UK with sales exceeding 7,000. The popular roadster looks set for another record this year with sales to the end of September at 8,183 compared to 6,239 during the same period last year; an increase of 31.2 per cent. Mazda MX-5 is available from £15,000 on-the-road.

plus the option of 350bhp/ton if you bolt the right turbo on.
And it must be said that they look good in Black (Again, i'm biased)
i'd recommend one....
I would like to think that journalists had more integrity than to award a prize because they were giving one away, if not, it kind of erodes their raison d'etre (Impartiality)

3) It's amazing how much more you like your cars when they start first time, every time and the only time in the garage is at service time.
4) No argument there, you probably could, but we are not talking About drag racing. We are merely explaining why we would recommend them, and if the mood takes you, you can also make mx-5's obscenely rapid into the bargain (p.s. FYI the MX-5 engine was originally designed as the lump for the 323 turbo, so it too was designed as a turbo - until the marketing types made it n/a, boo....)

in the end, it is horses for courses, feel, finesse, good looks, balance, poise, decent speed, good residuals, cheap, infrequent visits to the garage -v- a rather blunt weapon that goes quickly in a straight line or quickly into a hedge if you show it a corner.
i'd still recommend one, for the real world...

In a year and 9000 miles, my beaten up old 1996 Toyota has never gone wrong. And it has an stupidly complex drivetrain and pushes out somewhere in the region of 250bhp.
I like the MX-5. I almost bought one. Then I drove something with a 3S-GTE............

I was expressing my view, that having driven the MX5 and the MR2 Turbo, I much preferred the MR2, as as far as I was concerned it was a better car for the money (both 5.5k) had done simalar miles, were same condition and age. Where you got the idea a Toyota doesn't start in the morning is beyond me, same goes for you thinking my car is a Misguided Headge Seeking Missile, it'ss been discussed at length on General Gassing some time ago, the end result was that the view that the car didn't handle was cobblers.
The person slating me, actually bought the mx because she said the MR2 was too much, too soon and needed a stepping stone.
