M3 V Skyine GT-R
Discussion
I'm sure i will be tuning it...i just wanted some idea of what the difference would be. I drive a TVR Cerbera 4.5 at the moment, so in order for it to be as fast as this in a straight line, it would have to be 450-500bhp. How easy is it to achieve 500bhp? How much would it cost? Also, i've heard highly tuned skylines are not the most reliable things....could i achieve 500bhp, without affecting reliability & day to day driveability??
600: You'll be needing more than 500bhp in a Skyline to keep up with your Cerbie. From what I remember the Cerbie has 350bhp/ton (420 bhp, 1200kg); to get that bhp/ton in the 1560kg Skyline you'll need 546bhp.
However, the Cerbera's more slippery shape will give it an advantage at high speeds, so the Skyline will need even more power to overcome it. Your logon name says it all: "600" is how much power you'll need.
That amount of power is quite easily acheivable as long as you have a bottomless wallet - budget around £20k. My opinion: stick with the Cerbie.

yeah..i do love the cerbie...i've just had enough of the reliability issues....i've had the car for 3 months and it's been on the road for nearly 2 months and i'm already £3000 worse-off!. To top it all....some woman crashed into me last week while trying to control her kids in the back. It's all going on her insurance but i've just heard that is likely to be off the road for 8 WEEKS!!!...so i'm running about in my little 1.2 Corsa curtesy car!...it's doing my head in and i'm starting to think the car is cursed!
In my opinion the Cerbie wins hands down on looks...and in a straight line there is very little out there that can compare....BUT throw a little rain into the situation and i find myself getting beaten by impreza's etc. Basically...i want a car which is fast in all conditions, handles well and starts everyday!

I'd choose a GT-R over an M3 any day, even over a CSL
The fact that your buying a machine thats bloody fast but has nowhere near reached its potential is enough for me. Seeing 500+ BHp is easy and not to mention some of the best car wizardy ever. Hell you can even get a switch that makes it 100% RWD!!!
Not to mention the wonderful pssshhhhh of the dumpvalve and ULTIMATE uniqueness. How many M3s do you see on the streets these days? Way tooo many. The R34 doesn't stand out like a sore thumb but is ultimate to those who know anything about cars...

Hi,
New to the forum and a owner of a R34 GTR. Also have raced and beat a M3 (latest model). I did have a big advantage though as I have 600+bhp. With a stock R34 GTR I'd say that the M3 will have the upper hand as after buying my car new and running in the engine it didn't feel fast - well, not fast enough to take on a M3 anyway.
But spend a grand or two for basic mods will see the power to 400+hp.

This thread makes interesting reading - I am considering a Skyline after my tivver as the niggles are getting to me abit. Have always liked the look of the skyline (with NISMO split rims ). Which tuning firms are considered best? From reading mags HKS seem to be the leaders?
Thanks
MOD.
Edited to say: Can anyone direct me to any decent Skyline web pages akin to Piston Heads please?
