I own a 2000/W classic shape UK impreza turbo. Whilst checking the engine oil last night I noiced something strange. What I can only describe as a second dipstick next to the turbo heatshield. Does anyone have any idea what this is for?
Didnt touch it, firstly because the engine was still fairly warm. But secondly because unlike everything else its not labeled yellow. So figured it could be a bit of a bugger to get back in.
I wouldnt usually care, but it has me thinking. Is this something else I should be checking reguarly?

Usually I try and avoid scoobynet to be honest. I am sure more than half of there members dont even own a scooby?!?!?!?!?!
At the risk of a severe flaming, it does attract a fair few max power muppets and blinkered scooby die hards. Yes its a quick car that handles well but it is not the be all and end all of performance cars. I for one will not buy another when it comes time to trade again.

To be honest the car had never previously appealed to me. But when I came to changing my car quite recently I figured it was the only much talked about car that I haddent tried, well within budget too

With all the available performance just a squeeze of the right foot away it is all to easy to travel at speeds that will result in either an instant ban or god forbid an oily smudge on a tree. Add to that an insatiable thirst for unleaded and horrendous depreciation and it all adds up to an expensive experience, dont get me wrong I do enjoy my car (maybe a little to much!!), its just that I could get a better return on my money next time.
I will be opting for an A4 Diesel estate, this should be cheap to run and be able to perform any of the day-2-day choars that I throw at it. I will then get a kit car for use on weekends and maybe do a couple of sprints and hillclimbs etc. Insurance will be cheap, less petrol, higher residuals and added practicality.
On the other hand, if I get a car allowance and fuel card from work then I may get an Evo VIII

I think your mileage can vary - on my last Impreza which I had as a company car for 3 years, I bought it from the lease company & then traded it in when it was 5 years old for the same money as I bought it, after having driven it for 20,000 miles in its last 2 years!

If depreciation is such a big deal, then let someone else take the hit & buy second hand - depreciation can be your friend !
Can't really argue on the fuel economy, except to say that my P1 does far better than my old '96 Turbo, which averaged under 20MPG
Mark, did you buy new shape, or old shape (pre-2000)? All of the accolades were really for the old shape, and although the new ones are getting better, they are nowhere near the experience of the old ones (despite naff trim etc), as they are just too heavy.

The deal was loads of performance for not much money & no-frills, which is pretty much what they delivered. Sure there were plenty of better cars, but not for the money....
