Don't have one personally, but have driven an early model round the playground, sorry test track, at work (all in the name of research, honest).
VTEC is awesome at 6ksih, all the way round to the 9k limiter, when the whole rev display starts flashing. Not very torquey bellow 6k, but still enough to keep up with the traffic.
It was a bit lairy in terms of oversteer, snappy with not much progression, but I think they have changed the suspension setup since to make them a bit less twitchy.
Interior is a bit bland, but pretty focussed on the driver, and the boot is quite spacious too.
I say go for it - get out of that overweight Bavarian battleship, but them I'm a bit of a Honda fan.
Foggy
PS - The little stalk on the left of the steering wheel makes yellow flashy things light up on the corners of the car, helps let other people know where you are intending to go. You'll have to relearn how to use them, as they don't seem to be fitted or working on BMWs.

You are right there foggy - they changed the suspension for the 02 model which is supposed to prevent the whole going through a hedge backwards thing from going on. I .. urm .. accidently had a small back end out moment, which wasn't even an issue, just came back
I was hooked and chose one over a Boxter S, although value for money (although not overall cost) did come into the equation.
Make sure you hit 9k revs with the roof off and the windows down - got to be the best sound ever made by a 4 cylinder car

I bought one about six weeks ago after having sold my Griffith 500. Must admit I was a bit unsure before I made the switch but pleased to say I absolutely love the car. Enjoys being revved and goes like stink, making a great sound when it hits VTEC at 6000. Build quality is superb, servicing at 9000 miles costing around £150 seems good to me. The interior's not to everybody's taste but I've grown to like it and it's well-specced with aircon and leather as standard. Plenty of safety built-in with ABS and rollover protection although you need to show it some respect in the wet, although it doesn't seem as tail-happy as some people suggest - maybe it's me not doing it right! The electric roof's a winner and if you get the GT version with the bolt on hardtop it's perfect for the winter. Car's great as a day-to-day driver, in fact I'm looking forward to the drive to Blackpool tomorrow to the TVR Back Home weekend that I signed up for when I had the Griff . As you can see, I'm a convert. You'll love it.

Well it sounds likes it's gonna be a fun test drive. I was also looking at TVR's but they are too impractical for day to day use as you say. I just wonder now how much my insurance is gonna be, I pay 850 quid now for a group 17 beemer so a group 20 is gonna be a fair bit more i guess !!!

The S2000 is Group 20. I was surprised to find that I had to pay an extra £20 over what I was paying for the Griffith. The Griff was more powerful and worth more money than the S2000 - strange.

If you can, go for a 2002 or later model. They have a glass rear screen, nicer alloys, a slightly lowered seat and most important, revised suspension setting that remove some of the back ends snappy response.

Good choice woogie, enjoy
