Next-gen Mitsubishi Evo revealed

New rocket-sledge will be sharp and dynamic

Mitsubishi Prototype X: the next Evo
Mitsubishi Prototype X: the next Evo

Mitsubishi is teasing with sketches of its Prototype X, due to be unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January 2007.

It's what the next generation Evo will look like.

The Prototype X has been created, said the company, "to give a clear and accurate design vision for the next generation of Mitsubishi’s iconic supercar, the much anticipated and all-new Lancer Evolution.

"Consistent with MMC’s impeccable sporting credentials, its high performance engine, outstanding dynamics and sharp design will appeal to enthusiasts worldwide."

The company's pinning its hopes on the Lancer family of cars and follows the unveiling of the more sedate, standard Lancer saloon -- see link below.

Have to say that the Prototype X looks better -- but it's only a sketch...

"Mitsubishi is teasing with sketches of its Prototype X".

Yes they are, I am sure it will look much more like a faceless jellymould when it hits the streets.

Me thinks that car manufacturer concepts are like politicians . They always promise so much, yet never quite deliver what we hoped!

Why can't they be more honest with us and stop teasing us...

Is it me or does that concept look more like a 'Wicked Art' picture

Yeah, that pic looks like a toy car or those car sketches you can pick-up at Max Power - though I do like it, reminds me of Japanese Manga too, and I like that link regarding Jap cars [all about fun and excitment innit].

Let's hope it looks a bit like the drawing but Mazda teased us with something similar recently...

Surely the headline should be changed to:

COMEDICALLY EXAGGERATED CARTOON SKETCH OF NEXT-GEN MITSUBISHI EVO REVEALED

Why the sketches now? Hardly a 'tease' when pictures of the concept have been around for ages.:

I think the last two photos here look like something i would definately buy if Subaru can't come up with something comparable. Whether the end result production model is anything like the photos remains to be seen. However i firmly believe, as the general sentiment here suggests, that is highly unlikely!!

One of these days manufacturers will produce a prototype/concept and actually build it for general consumption. Otherwise the teasing is absolutely pointless!!

The concept looks great, but then they always do.

I agree the road version will be a bland blob.

Please say it looks like that and not the Lancer concept!

Not sure how many of the actual parts are shared these days, but surely until the ready-salted Lancer looks somewhat like the concept then the Evo doesn't have much chance of looking as mad as the concept?

Probably because they don't sit on their hands and wait for the cars to become outmoded?

Even if the design gets watered down from the concept version, I reckon it'll still look hot - there's tons of pics on't web, you've only got to Google Image "evo x" and there's loads - ok lots of duplicates plus a few "lancer" spy shots too and few "rally' models versions aswell bizarrely but plenty to show its a mean and moody son-of-a-bitch.

Current design is looking old though. They keep flogging them though - they're releasing the IX-360FQ MR now too. A re-design is radically over-due. I've heard that it is vastly different from the existing. With a DSG clutch too apparently.

I have just seen pics of the proposed new concept impreza and i have to say it's defnately getting there this time, if it looks anything like the concept, not holding my breath though. It would be nice if they included a paddle change ala proper WRC style, but since when did manufacturers actually ever listen to the customer.

The new X looks stunning. I imagine it will look rather understated for once, in deep grey sans spoiler, like an RS6. Lets hope it doesn't come with the minicab interior.

I suspect the new subaru will be as shocking as always.
