I've recently aquired a 05 plate 2.0L Impreza WRX which I'm very pleased with.
I'd like to have that trade mark low burble so I'm looking for recommendations on back boxes and/or cat back systems.

- like to avoid the big 4.5" tail pipes as I'm not keen on the look.
- what products won't make me go deaf on long runs.

Alternatively I can just save for a while for the PPP having seen and heard that Prodrive back box. £1600 spend though.

Prodrive is probably the best choice.

I have a scoobysport backbox (looks similar to the prodrive one), which gives as nice low but gentle burble (so the neighbours don't get annoyed) and is very quiet on the motorway. I think it is the same as Hayward and Scott.
So it might be worth looking into those too.

Sorry I don't know, mine was already on the car.

They might have a website (I just found it...www.scoobysport.co.uk/)

Hayward and scott exhausts here www.haywardandscott.co.uk/results.asp?category=13

Hi folks,

I too had the same dilema w.r.t burble versus noise levels

* Fitted a WR prodrive backbox and thought it was pretty good
* then Fitted a Scoobysport classic BB - not too loud but REAL nice growl when you nail it
* tried an Afterburner for 20 mins and immediately too it off - VERY loud even at low revs, very bassy

So the Scoobysport is back on and I still love it

See me clip below :-

Hayward and Scott used to make the Scoobysport exhausts for them, they were about 20m away from eachother in the industrial estate near me.

Scoobysport has now moved so i don't know if they still use H&S for them.

Still, i'd save up and go for the PPP, or if not then i'd go for the H&S exhaust as they are exceptional quality and sound amazing.

You could also try Power Engineering or Magnex. Both of which look fairly stealthy and give a very nice burble, without being too harsh. (full SS system, lifetime warranty and all that)

I went for the Power Engineering T75 (IIRC) and never looked back

The PE75 was roughly £225 I think, which I kept on the Scoob for a year before eBaying for £180. Just something to bear in mind if you don't like parting with cash!

I thought Magnex was a louder exhaust (than scoobysport).

Don, you need to get to a local meet and hear the exhausts for yourself

Sorry to hijack the thread but I was going to ask a similar question. I've just bought a 2.5l WRX STi and had a prodrive fitted. It sounds Ok, and gives a nice bark when you drop it a cog and put your foot down. What I wanted to know is how would a new slightly louder exhaust effect the prodrive pack? I don't want to undo any of the good work done by prodrive...

I wouldn't have thought it would be a negative effect, although Scoobynet might have more answers. (once you trawled through the rubbish!)

I think they're of the same stable so to speak. Having heard a few they're all pretty similar. It's certainly not afterburner territory

I think you can still get the original 'Scoobysport' - exhaust direct from H&S. If not the newer Janspeed is also very nice. I had the H&S Scoobysport exhausts on both my Scoobs - always found them a good compromise between size and noise. Well made too.

Cost wise - if memory serves me right, the backbox is about £300 - maybe less. Check out the for sale section on SN, as they come up a fair bit, but they tend to be popular, so they go quickly.
