Well, well! Leading American car magazine Road & Track has compared a shortlist of cars under $30k for the most enjoyable drive.

Winner - Nissan 350 Z (Hooray!) Fine handling, rigid structure, free-revving engine and impressive brakes.

2nd - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution RS. A touch hard-edged for everyday use.

3rd - Ford Mustang GT. Brakes fail to match the V8 engine's performance.

Base spec 997 is just under $73,000 in the US - which is just over £37,000 (vs UK price of £59,000).

Anyone know if there is a proper reason for the huge difference (other than Porsche simply wanting to sales in the US high)?

You all think that's bad. A new 997 911 here in Ireland is 138,500 euro which is $183,000 in the US on todays exchange rates. (or in the UK £93,181) Granted this is a car with most of the extra's but come on.... A tiptronic 997 911 turbo is 235,000 euro here.
This is because we have double taxation here. The car is taxed as normal (VAT), then there is a tax to register the car. (VRT) This VRT is paid on top of the VAT.
Did ya ever hear the phrase rip off Ireland??!!!!
