Hi,

Missing my old 944 and looking for something with similarly docile flattering oversteer! Thought this might be a good place for suggestions!!

A 200SX would be an obvious choice, but I'm worried the turbo'd power delivery coming in mid corner and sending me into the hedge

What do people reckon? It doesn't have to be super fast as long as its affordable and fun.

Everything you've described screams either Mx-5 or MR2 (mk1)

Drove a new MX5 the other day and was a bit unimpressed. Despite being the 2 litre it wasn't that rapid (not that thats a great concern, just thought 2 litres in a car that small would be rapid!) Excellent turn in didn't seem to be followed up with as much feel as I'd have liked.

Never driven a Mk1 MR2, but always liked the 'chassis by Lotus, engine by Cosworth' idea

Chris - would recommend a 200SX without hesitation. Seriously underrated car IMO. I had a 1998 model (later shape)from nearly new and it was probably the best all round drivers car I've ever had. Power delivery was smooth, and the handling awesome. Point to point it seemed much quicker than the TVR I now drive. And if your so minded, they can seriously 'tweaked' like most Jap offerings. Go for it teacher

Yes, the Evo reviews have been rather negative. I was thinking more of a Mk1 / 2.5 If you've been driving a 944, they'll all seem slow unless you get one of the turbo/charger conversions.

You didn't say how much you want to spend, but if you like the look of the 944 then a 2nd gen RX7 (FC3S) would work...

Fairly cheap now, with plenty of cheap power available.

I'm also looking for a japanese RWD with more than 2 seats. Other than 200SX does anyone have suggestions in the sub £4K category.

Thanks

Having had a 944 turbo which I loved...

and a 200SX which I hated...

I'd reccommend a supercharged MX5, there are quite a few about.

Obviously it depends upon budget and what other criteria you have.

Mmm I was rather shocked to see how cheap that one was too! But I'd say on average they were only a grand or two more on average - not double.

If you raised your budget to £5k I would recommend nothing other than this

Awesome car, and superb price.

Cheap reliable RWD fun I would say would be an S13 200SX aswell.

There's one for £900 with a bugger load of spares if you're interested in doing a bit of spanner work

Nice colour

Not looking immediately, but joking aside that looks like a lot of car for 5 grand. I think the insurance would laugh though - I'm 23.

Thats why its a good price, as he's after a mega quick sale.

I had my 1st S13 when I was 24, and insurance wasn't too bad (~£500), although mine was only mildly modified.

And the colours awesome, drifter's love pink

Mitsubishi Starion is what you want.
Strong quick & reliable with LSD as standard.
One of Clarksons favourite cars.
There's a guy advertises them in Retrocars for about £2500
Any one remember when Pentti Airikkala won the Welsh rally in one in the late 80's.
The BBC in car footage was awesome!

Having just driven one of these up to Scotland, I think one of these might fit the bill, simply stunningly fast in 2.5 TT form. I'm just about to transplant an engine from one of these engines into my older version.

One fast censoredard

Very sweet handling

Awesome brakes

Even in auto form they're good, very good

Good for 4 whole numpty units of speed too eek

Oh did I say fast ?
