buying import scoobies

I'm looking at buying a impreza soon and originally was going to get an uk turbo, but after looking around have now decided to get the faster wrx sti.
Thing is i haven't brought an import car before and would like some advice on buying import wrx sti's, i have around 6-7K to spend and would like a 98-2000 year car.
What sort of things should i be looking out for?
Also apart from always running on super unleaded are there any other hidden costs in running a sti over a uk turbo. i only do about 4k miles a year if that helps.
i have read the sidc faq thing and would like to here from anyone who has owned both a uk model and an import.

Good morning, if you want please call us becuase we have lots of experience when it comes to the subaru. We also know of a couple of really good examples and really good prices including a very mint, completly standard non-raced woman owned version 3 terzo. Let me know, if we can be of any help.
