they are damn difficult to find nowadays, espcially in an unmolested form, being the performance bargain they are. wish i bought one now, a few years ago when they weren't so sought after...

They're a reasonable chassis, they're well balanced, they're beautifully easy to drive at 6-7 tenths, great motorway cars if you get a Touring spec, they ARE a bit laggy, the gearbox is quite a long throw and surprising agricultural for a swish coupe (this detracts from an otherwise great driving position.)

They're a bugger in the wet. Diff behaviour is a bit random.

Huge modding scene of course which is good if that's what you plan, but as someone else just said, means there aren't many around which haven't already been modded, usually suboptimally.

Also the 14a has a very long and low front overhang, which means fun in multistoreys unless you are an expert on weight transfer.

They're Group 18 insurance and now the drift boys have made them famous, they're highly nickable.

The owner's club are a good bunch and there's sound advice on the forums.

They sound bloody great with an induction kit.

Er, and I need some new rear panels for mine...

Get yourself over to www.sxoc.com where you will find loads of friendly help & advice, as well as cars for sale thumbup

As mentioned above, when you get one, take care in the wet because they will bite you yes

Had mine for 2 weeks now and I'm loving it. Downside is that I won't leave it parked in certain areas as it draws way too much attention from teenage scallywags.

Welcome to the sideways club

Probably the most entertaining fast coupe in a the price bracket, nice simple mechanicals, great owners club & definately sought after (esp nice ones)

I aslo deal in them, mostly direct imports so no my way round them, happy to assist if its of any use.

I've owned my S14 for over three years and we loved it so much I bought an S14a for the wife....

Owners club is superb

Laggy? I hit 22 psi by a shade over 3000 rpm so its not exactly laggy, neither is the wifes which has a standard turbo.

As a standard car, if the suspension is fairly new and in good order then the handling is actually a huge amount better than most people think. As it starts to get a bit older you really need to upgrade stuff. As has been mentioned, check out the sxoc for advice based on vast experience, take your time and do everything properly stuff like guages, fluids and quality oil / water guages are surpringly important.

Set up and modded well with good tyres, these cars have massive amounts of grip in both the wet and dry. Even on wet trackdays the grip and speed is nothing short of awesome

Standard rear brakes are absolute rubbish, but a Z32 set up can be had for minimal cash and improves things massively. Front upgrades are pretty cheap too.

The majority of engines when looked after are very durable and more than capable of lots of track abuse.

Lots of the little problems people used to have, like turbo gaskets going etc, now have pretty simple fixes.

Biased I know. In my defence, I do a lot of trackdays, drive lots of other performance cars and still love my car everytime I get into it. As well as doing dozens of trackdays a year it also covers a lot of miles as my daily driver...... cool cool cars.

eek 22psi, crikey, what power are you putting out, what mods do you have. Me suspects a lot on both counts.

350 bhp and 370 lb/ft of torque(on dyno dynamics RR in shootout mode).... the engine and mods could happily take a bigger turbo but for the moment I love having such a broad spread of power which comes in early in the rev range. I also need to sort a bomb proof gearbox before pushing the power further

I had a black S14a before I bought my impreza, running 15psi FMIC induction kit and decatted, what a gorgeous car it was, my god it would shift, only reason I got an impreza? well tbh it was the 4WD, if I could have driven my 200sx in the wet aswell as it did in the dry I would never have sold it, the impreza laps up the wet of course. I shall always look back on my 200s driving days as some of my best ever :-)
