Impreza buying help
Discussion
I'm about to start looking for an impreza turbo, I have a budget of around £6500, looking for a standard 1998-2000 year car, never driven a impreza before so any advice on what to look out for and what condition and mileage that sort of money will get me would be a great help.
if this has been discussed somewhere else already please could someone post the thread.
thanks for any help.

Are you looking for a uk car or for an import? If an import then what spec are you after?
I bought a 1999 uk turbo wagon for 4600 with FSH and 74k miles. I've had no problems with it at all. Do a search for the sidc faq using google for more information than you can get through at lunch time. If in any doubt get a local independant to give the car a once over.
Regards,
Mark

I've just paid £7k for an 02 plate WRX (uk car).
Completely standard, but intergalactic mileage.
I opted for that one as i'd much rather have a one owner car that has done a lot of motorway miles than a chavved up one thats been thrashed round the city centre for 30k!
My only advice would be buy on condition.

I would like a uk car and it needs to be standard for insurance purposes.

For that money you can afford to be reasonably choosey. Go and test drive a few to get used to what they should feel like and then buy one from someone you feel you can trust that is an enthusiast and has spent the money when required. i.e. full service history, lowish mileage ideally one owner. Should be possible on that budget.
Incidentally I wouldn't rule out all mods. brakes for example may not adversely afect your insurance and are a good thing. There have been a few recent threads on insurance for Scoobs, do a search and phone round.
Good luck.

As said before, for that money you should get a very nice Impreza of that age.
There are loads arround, so look at as many as possible and don't let yourself get rushed into a deal.
I wouldn't be scared of high milage as long as they have been serviced reguarly and looked after.
Do check for accident damage etc as they are very quick, and handle very well, but cannot defy the rules of physics so many have done a little accidental off - roading.
Go to www.sidc.co.uk ( I think, but otherwise try .com ) and look at their FAQ. A whole load of advice there ( before buying mine, I printed it out, it was about 50 pages long, but all really useful info ). Also look at scooby net ( cannot remember the web address, but I am sure someone will give it )
In short, look at as many as you can, and don't buy until you find a really nice one that has been looked after, then you will really enjoy it because they are great cars.
