CRX 1.6 16V Non VTEC Exhaust Problem

I want to change the exhaust in my CRX soon.
But the problem is - nobody know for sure what size it should be.
Some say that 2" is a good choice, others that 2,25 is better, and others that if Im going to build a powerfull NA engine I should go for 2,5".
The goal is to reach 170+ BHP.
Im thinking of 2" and 2 mufflers empty inside. But what part of the exhaust should be replaced with a pipe and which one with a muffler ? Im thinking about replacing the cat. with a pipe and an empty inside muffler ( I hope you know what I mean by the "empty muffler" - I couldnt find the right word. ) isntead of the stock middle muffler, and an empty exhaust at the end of the system.
Besides that I heard that its better to have the exhaust a bit too loose than too tight, becouse I can lose power with a tight one at high revs - how true is that ?
Generally - what else do I need to know when making an exhaust for my Honda ?
