Got my car back from another round of fettling and am now thinking a V8 might just be simpler...

353rwhp BUT...

- lovely shiney intercooler, while having almost no pressure drop, has crap flow dynamics and I'm now at pretty much all it can give; boost trails off
- Nice quiet exhaust system is strangling the turbos so it's still very laggy, worse in fact but raising the rev limit 400 helps.
- replaced the silenced mid-pipe and it's a bit better. New backbox on order, should spin up a bit sooner.
- Nice shiny manifold might be too big which is inducing more lag.

So, another few hundred should see power arriving before a week-next-tuesday... Makes 320rwhp from 6k rpm and peaks out at 7k - pretty flat power and torque so track driving will be about keeping the revs > 5.5k. New bits will bring it in 1-1.5k rpm sooner. Target of 400rwhp remains elusive as current intercooler is only 6 months old.

My tuner suggested ripping the engine out and opening up the ports a tad (well, a lot) so that's likely to be the winter project!

If it's possible I'll reuse the rad and sort out a v-mount...

It's never bloody ending with these damn things

Aiming for 400 but will run low boost mostly on track - i.e. about the same power as now. It's really scary how hard it kicks. I'll probably get used to it but at the mo it's plain scary even on low boost!

It's frustrating having maxed out the intercooler's flow capacity but the exhaust was on the car when I got it. The replacement will be much better as it's got an oval back box and won't hang so low meaning I can fit a functional diffuser rather than GT wing...

Iain, does anyone make Fibreglass or Carbon doors for the FD?

On you exhaust, we run Burns Stainless silencers at the back. They are barely any restriction at all www.burnsstainless.com/UltraliteMuffler/ultralitemuffler.html . For in-line silencers the Borla XR-1 is great.http://store.summitracing.com/egnsear

Not seen any but check out places like www.rx7store.net/ (can't check from work). I know someone who's having front wing moulds made up for fibreglass replacements but these wouldn't be legal for many race series (which he was suprised about having done no research!).

I've got a racing beat backbox on order and, unless the midpipe means it's too loud for most track days I'm going to leave it as is!
