Civic Type-R VTEC sound

I'm picking up an 04 (53plate) CTR on saturday which has 24k on the clock. I took it for a test drive but it does not seem to be as grunty sounding when it goes VTEC. I'm comparing this against an 06 (06 plate) demo car with 5k on the clock I took for a test from the local honda dealer.

Are the 06 cars made to sound more gruntier? Anyone any ideas? It's as quick in it's acceleration.

Maybe the dealer had a K&N filter in to make it sound louder.

Probably, at 24K miles, yours has been run in alot more than the demo .... our 19K CTR used to scream and whine more than sounding 'grunty' when into Vtec - and went very well thank you

Ok so it was a high end grunt, low end whine! More like a rasping sound….

I'm not being funny, but if you test drove it and felt it was lacking against the '06 car - why did you buy it then?

have not exchanged all of the cash for it yet and have read that the engine needs to warm up before the VTEC goes bonkers. So will make sure to give it another go on Sat....

Won't VTEC if the engine is not warmed through and if the oil is too low.

At 24K should be loosening up nicely.

I give the engine 15 mins or so to warm up... and then the crazy cams do their stuff...
