I am in love!

Ive never driven a Impreza and want some reliable info on them. Was thinking about going to somewhere like powerstation to get the lowdown on them and possibly test driving one. The whole black with black is incredible. Anyone got useful info about running an Impreza as an everyday car?

They can be rather thirsty when you put your foot down (like any turbonuttermobile really), other than that no issues I can think of.

I went for a Legacy Wagon over an Impreza due to various cost/practicality/lifestyle factors, but have a few mates with Imprezas and they've had as few problems as me. (ie none)

I've had Subarus for the last 5 years. Get an STi! (Preferably a type RA - see my profile )

Thirst (25 mpg max on my STi) and insurance are the biggest issues. Reliability is good - no major problems for me. Things like clutches (every 30k to 70k miles in my experience) and servicing are OK and don't cost the earth if you avoid the main dealers.

Have a read of "my cars" in my profile. It should give you a few clues as to what I've had to put up with

I have a Type R which I love. The car in the add wont go to 340 on the vf-28, you will get 320 maybe a little more on the STI and the vf-28. If you can find a good STI 1999 on you will have a good time driving it, of the brakes have been done all that would be better. standard they arnt very good.

It says in the ad 'cheap insurance' but once you've mentioned all those mods to an insurer they'll get very nervous.

For that reason the STi makes more sense.

As to driving them on real, crappy UK roads, my boss had a PPP WRX and it was a much better compromise than certainly the 2004 STi I tried, which was extremely harsh.
