Hi

After a run around for the week, so that i am not using main car. Budget is only 8k for this, having had a 2001 Scooby before, tempted to go back, but also fancy a skyline, although they seem a lot older for that cash. Just wondering what people would go for, in terms of everyday use and track work?

thanks

they are two completley different animals..

Your comparing a 200bhp 2.0 4-pot turbo to a 300bhp 2.8 straight six twin

Of course the skyline will be older for the price, because its 'a better car' (or more expensive).

And that follows through to running costs also.

I just went through the same process of choosing a car. As my requirements were for something that would perform relatively faultlessly while I spent my time and money building a track car and it would be dead useful if I could tow my track car with what I bought I played safe and bought the impreza. However, if I were quite happy to spend time and money on the car and wanted something really special then I'd go for the skyline. The impreza is a very very good car that does exactly what I want but, to me, it isn't a particularly special car if you know what I mean.

Regards,

Mark

For that money, I quick flick through the PH classifieds suggests you'd be looking a a slighty ropey skyline for that money.

So i'd get an RX7.

Not true. When I enquired on here before cptsideways came up with an example he had imported within budget that looked very nice. It would be well worth contacting him imo.

Agreed plenty of R32-33's for that amount. £8k will get you a tidy 32 GTR or similar condition 33 GTS I suppose.
If its for everday use though, an impreza is probably a lot easier to live with, simply from a size alone pov.

If you've had an Impreza already, go for the Skyline anyway. They're supposed to be pretty bullet proof in standard tune.

2.6 litres.

i'd take a skyline all day long, then again i am biassed.
I don't really rate imprezas, too many of the wrong types have their hands on them.
useful tools, but will always stand in the evo's shadow for me.

you should be able to find a reasonable R32 GTR for 8 grand.
as for an AE86, nice cult cars, but they're way overpriced, and overated unless you want a drift / touge car.

I know someone that might be selling a mint condition Skyline.

Saying that is sounds stupid, looks ridiculous and you could not use it every day as you would be deaf.

Skyline for me, every time (sorry Flibbs)

And I'm even considering buyine one myself (I have recently developed an unhealthy obsession with 4dr R32 GTS-T's)

But if I were recommending a Skyline, it would have to be the R32 GTR But R33 GTS's are not to be sniffed at either

And yes, the max cc of a Skyline 2.6litres

can be either

the R31 was available in RB30DET in limited numbers, nowadays though places like RIPS in new zealand are offering the RB30 built for huge power. well we have seen 2.7 and 2.8 rebores and strokers, so i guess it was only a matter of time before someone started using the RB30 bottom end. monsterous piece of kit, good for some serious power and torque.
a few of the big power drag skylines run them now over here, kieth cowie etc.
there's even an S13 fitted with one over on sxoc (stuey69's car).
good engines.

I think Keith Cowie's is running the OSG 3.0 conversion, not the RB30. Similar set-up though.

I have looked into it and works out at about £7-8k to do the conversion. Would be interesting trying to put that sort of power through the rears on my GTST.
