Ok, thinking about buying a Jap motor after going out in a mates 400 bhp Skyline. My choice is between a modded 300zx TT and a modded GTO/3000GT. Question is, which is the best option?

Not having owned either, all I can suggest is what i've heard/experienced as a Jap Car owner/enthusiast. Both aren't the most reliable in the Jap car world - 300zx suffers from water pump probs (someone tell me I've got the right model/part etc?!!!) and the GTO is really for someone who knows how to work with cars. One of my ex's had one and the oil pump seized on him killing the engine - he's a bit of a guru when it comes to cars and even he's had probs with the rebuild etc.

IMHO I prefer the looks/power/toys of the GTO.

Why not go for a Skyline like your mate? Or a Supra TT? Mebbe even something slightly rarer and a Soarer TT? All interesting cars, quick and fairly reliable!

Depends on what you're after and what you can cope with TBH.

Than what? The Mitsi? Probably.
Any other Jap semi-exotica? Probably not.

IMHO, neither of those is a great machine for anything other than going fast in a straight line and giving garages lots of money.

Supra Mk IV is a good call. S14 200SX a cheaper alternative. Anything else depends on how deep your pockets are - 3.0 turbo cars over 5 years old are NOT cheap to run, even if you can buy them for £10k or less.

What has made you narrow the options so much? There are loads of decent fast Jap cars to choose from whatever your budget. Test Drive a bunch (I you can) and see which you like the best.

You'd need a whole county to catch the damn thing though!!! And heaven help you if you got in a tank-slapper...you'd be in Wales before you knew it!

That the Soarer is...how shall I put it...more of a 'USDM' car than a UKDM car. It was not designed with precise and scalpel-like handling in mind. And before anyone posts about how much grip they've got: GRIP IS NOT HANDLING. Any chav can put stiff suspension and broad sticky tyres on a car, handling is completely different.
