It looks like I will be moving to the UK within the month and looking for a car soon after that. My budget is around 7k GBP and I do not need to use the car as a daily driver, just as a fun thing for trips on weekends, with perhaps the odd shopping and potentially 1 or 2 annual trips to the continent thrown in.

Some of the cars I've been looking at include the Galant/Legnum VR-4, Toyota Supra, the Skyline R-32 GT-R and the Evo IV.

I have no experience with these cars and any advice or comparison of them would be very welcome.

Another issue would be insurance. I am 27 and have had no accidents to date (having covered over 200k miles), no speeding tickets the UK police could know about etc. but also no prior insurance history in the UK. Will that make these cars generally uninsurable?

You will be very, very lucky to get a good R32 GT-R for £7k over here.

£7k is more like RX7 territory.

In my experience, yes, but then you are older and presumably have some sort of exhangable EU licence thing that might help, try to get a letter of recommendation from your current insurance company saying you have been insured for so many years etc. Not all insurance companies will accept that, but it might help.

£7k will get you a very nice VR-4 in either Galant or Legnum flavours. Completely different to the others you've mentioned in my opinion, as it's more suited to comfort and effortless pace, not outright performance although it's quick enough. It'll probably cost the least to insure of that group, but you may find the fuel costs quite prohibitive as it's a very thirsty car. There isn't much out there to increase the ponies, but that said for £1000 you should be able to see 330bhp from standard.

Coming from a T5R I reckon you'd fit right into a VR-4. www.clubvr4.com would be a good place to look when you're over here, probably the best place to buy one too as all the members look after them pretty well.

Btw. is your one still for sale, Wildcards?

It looks like it will take some months to get there (to the point of owning a car) but I guess generally the situation will not change

Yes it is, but the car probably won't be for sale in few months. There are always some nice ones about though, theres no need to panic.

Budget 1-2k annually for repairs/replacement parts though assuming you don;t get teh modding bug. If you do then budget 5-7k annually
