Hi does any one know what the differences are between a import engine and a uk engine in a classic impreza?

My basic answer is that the jap engine has more power (although the UK power is still plenty)

I am sure someone will be along soon with the technical bits.

If it's an STi, it may have a blueprinted engine. Also means that you need to run it on Optimax or it's likely to go pop.

No engine difference between UK and JDM WRX up to at least the 1997 model year.

I had a 96 UK that was upgraded to 280ish BHP without problems - just exhaust and a remap

The internals of a UK standard engine are good enough to match a Jap STI without any problems. Mine is running more than a Jap STI (about 310bhp currently) without any internal mods and shows no sign of complaint. I gather Vixpy1 has seen UK Scoobs on the rolling road running 450bhp without internal mods (though they may have started off as STI's).

If you mean the engines then turbos = very and NA = very very. The MAF's on 99 and 00 cars are a weak spot and trackdays can lead to some oil starvation problems in severe circumstances but in normal tune and service they are pretty well bullet proof. Most disasters you hear of are due to inexpert modification.

Once Scoobynet is back up and running have a look on there for (mainly) useful advice.
