only ask as my Mother went to her local Honda dealer to replace her ageing Golf with the intention of buying a 1.6i model and ended up buying one of these...!

the missues had the SE Sport version of that civic and i thought it was a damn good all rounder.

Great chassis, and I hate FWD...

As for the type S - i think it has a 2.0 and 5 doors, and is the 'warm hatch' against the R - so I'd say it should be a reasonable buy...

The Type-S was the 5dr alternative to the Type-R although it 'only' produces 170bhp. Nice car IMO. I hope she got a good deal though, as they didn't sell well, for a time there were alot of demonstrator models appearing in dealers used car adverts with bugger all miles and heavy discounts. People seemed happy to live with 3 doors and a better image.

I think she got a decent deal, late 2003 model 28k miles £8400, all usual refinements etc. I had a quick look at Autotrader and I could not see a similar one for less than £9500 so I think so. She was interested in the Type R but needs 4 doors. Also got free warranty and MOT adn a couple of other things I can't remember
