Didn't some of them use previous-generation Mitsubishi motors? or was that Daewoo or one of the other distinctly budget Korean cars?

I think I've seen some car along those lines in a magazine with a 4G63 (evo motor) dropped in it, can't remember the details though.

there's a Proton that runs Mitsubishi engines/running gear. bargain basement early evo apparently 'cos they have no image.

Proton Persona had the panel and chassis tooling from the Evo I-III. It did not have the engine and running gear, Lancer engine and running gear yes (up to 1.6 NA FWD), but not Evo running gear. Good news for Evo drivers that crumple panels though.

4G63 engine and 4WD used in the USA on Eagle Talons, Mitsi Eclipses and DSMs. All early model 4G63's though, same as up to the Evo 4 with the gearbox on tother side from Evo 5 onwards.

Dont know where Hyundai source their engines from, but Daewoo mentioned above source them from GM/Opel. The Lanos for example uses the 1.4 Ecotec.

AFAIK the V6 Hyundais use the old C series Honda V6's albeit a bit modernised.

iirc Hyundai used M'bishi units 'til 1992.

How do you get 500bhp in a hyundai? The question really should be 'Why?'

Why? Turning up at Vmax with your 500bhp Sonata and sticking one up at the chap who was disapointed that it's not a supercar wankfest anymore would be start.

About the only sensible use for a 500 bhp Hyundai I can imagine though - except when you'd install an AWD system in one that isn't a SUV thingy...

Sounds like a hell of a sleeper!

I could stick a 250bhp Holeshot turbo'd Hyubusa engine in the Getz lol! Oil change services are replaced by rebuilds....

Holeshot can get 550bhp out of a 'busa lump

That must be rather...highly strung...

Though having driven a getz for a week for work I really wasn't very impressed with its dynamic abilities - or build quality, feel, driving position etc (sorry Gazboy - it was very economical though!), so I imagine it would be downright terrifying with anything over 200bhp (and possibly mildly scary with 150, though at least it would go up hills better)

Dads P plate Sonata is running a 3.0 V6 engine from Mitsuibishi, looks like the same one that's in the GTO, although it's doesn't go like one.
