Has anybody owned or considered owning a Skyline in HK? As I am likely moving to HK later this year and older cars seem very good value there (for the Skyline this would likely be a R33, or maybe an early R34), I was wondering whether there might be any significant hurdles regarding insurance or other regulation for that car.

I think the biggest hurdle will be hong kong itself. That many people in that little space......

It isn't easy to import top end sports cars into HK, but there are plenty of Skylines in HK already so I don't see that buying one will be a problem. There are plenty of places to enjoy a spirited drive away from the bustle of HK Island. I went on an epic drive out to the Chinese border with a friend when I was in HK. There were Ferraris, Lambos and Jap beasts galore on open roads with plenty of interesting speeds achieved!

the other handy thing is, if you buy say an R34 (or any late model jap car - i.e. less than 10 yrs old) and you own it in HK. If you like it and want to keep it, you can bring it back to the UK under personal import laws! So it means you don't have to worry about ESVA and model reports!
