Subaru offers fuel freebie

Buy a Scoobie now and get fuel worth £3,000

Subaru Impreza: now with free fuel
Subaru Impreza: now with free fuel
If you're in the market for a Scoobie, now might be the time to buy, as the company's summer incentive scheme kicks in.

With fuel costs at their highest for 20 years, Subaru UK has announced that it'll give away fuel vouchers worth £3,000 in its biggest-ever freebie. Subaru reckons it's the equivalent to nearly two years’ free fuel for the average driver -- although our calculations show that a hard-driven car returning 20mpg at £0.96/litre will complete just 13,766 miles before the giveaway runs out.

Models eligible for the offer are:

  • Subaru Impreza WRX 4dr – all models
  • Subaru Impreza WRX 5dr – all models
  • Subaru Impreza STI – all models
  • Subaru Forester 2.5XTn - Manual Transmission
  • Subaru Legacy 3.0 spec. B Saloon – all models
  • Subaru Legacy 3.0 spec. B Sports Tourer – all models

All other Subaru models will have £1,000 of fuel vouchers.

Subaru customers can then claim their free fuel by presenting the ‘Subaru All Star’ vouchers at any of the 10,000 participating garages nationwide.

This offer applies to new Subaru cars sold through the authorised UK Subaru dealer network and registered between 1 July and 30 September 2006 and excludes all other offers and promotions.

Subaru's UK boss Peter Kinnaird said: "The recent increases in the cost of fuel have made motorists even more cost conscious. Most pundits think that petrol prices will fall again in future, and our highly topical offer may well shield Subaru buyers during this current high point. But more than that, we want to make a dramatic gesture to get our outstanding cars onto more car-buyers’ radar."

In a way, it's a clever freebie since you can't spend that money all at once, which means Subaru can eke out the cost over the rest of the year -- but it does show that the summer incentive season has arrived so expect more offers from other car makers.

Does that replace the free servicing and extended (and restricted) warranty offers?

Why don't Subaru just realise that the Impreza is old and off the pace and give us a new one?

Hmmm... GM gives a fuel incentive on their gas guzzlers and get slated as the USA's worst enemy bar the odd Muslim fundamentalist terror organisation. And now Subaru somehow thought "Hey, that's a swell marketing idea, let's blatantly copy it"?

I agree with GravelBen.

If you are bothered about looks trot off to the Alfa forum

Subaru spend their money on the oily bits, which suits me fine.
