Hi,

I just wondered if any body else on here (apart from me!) has a Mitsubishi Colt Starion?

I just bought mine for a laugh really!!! Bit of a stop gap if you like. "BHP-per-£" wise, I couldn't refuse. It's running at 230BHP with a few mods by Henstead motorsport and it does go really, really well... Don't know if its the gearing but 60's gone in no time (@180BHP think 0-60 = 6.6???).

Anyway, it's definatly not everyones taste (and from some angles not even mine!) but the smile factor is way up there!

Thats more than quite cool, thats extra special cool

I love Starions. I really want one, and yours looks like a tidy example

I know a chap on the SXOC has one (IIRC he has a Narrow body 2.0) and I've seen a few at shows etc, but not really many on the roads.

Look after it

Dispite that rather unpleasant thought, I am intruiged as to what colour you would go for??

I normally dont like red cars myself (except Audi UR Quattros, Starions, Ferrari F40's and Celica GT4 ST165's) but I dont think a Starion really works in any other colour.

White and black dont suit it at all IMO, and silver is too modern a colour for such an 80's shape.

Red all the way for me

It's just cause i've been in a few nasty and one really nasty(see profile) accidents and it's probably coincidence but they've all been in red cars.

Arent these quite hard to get hold of these days as mint ones are becoming rarer and rarer. I also believe the engines have a tendency to go BANG. Anyone remember Top Gear when clarkson bought one?

Yes, but Clarskon's an idiot.

He cant get his huge bonce to comprehend how a turbo works (or even how it differs from a supercharger) and he essentially had a bleed valve fitted to a larger turbo, on standard cooling/engine I dread to think what boost he was running, completely oblivious to what was going on under the bonnet.

Yes it made it much faster than everything he was racing, but it was boiling just about every fluid. He didn't even notice that the temp gauge was way in the red, he just pulled into the pits wondering why it running badly, and then steam shot out of the rad

The end result of that episode was Clarkson was the winner, as his car was clearly the best, but he had to admit he was an idiot.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments on my car! It's starting to need a little attention to the lower rear arches. After that, it will be getting fresh paint (keeping it red I'm afraid for originality as it fades quickly and I cant be ar*ed to keep cutting it back!!!!)

...I saw the Topgear episode with the Starion!
I think the one he had was the 6 Cylinder 2.6 version that's popular in the states.

Mine is the 2.0 (which, strangely, are lighter and faster!).

It's been played around with by Henstead Motorsport a good few years back and the rolling road chart shows 230.7 BHP. Its been set up properly and is extremely driveable due to good torque and very little turbo lag!

Overtaking is unbeleiveable and it will bite you if you are not expecting it! Oh, no ABS either!

Mods include:
- Different turbo
- Longlife 2 1/4 inch s/s exhaust, (modified with swan-neck after the manifold).
- Chipped ECU
- Turbo Timer
etc etc etc...

It's great fun - people simply do not expxect an old F-reg car to be as quick!

As far as engines blowing up, the 2.0 is pretty bulletproof although need an oil change every 3k. I did almost boil it after a 140 mph "track-day" (failed water pump now fixed!) ...infact it is pretty amazing and you can still get all the parts from Main Dealers!

I know of one that may be up for sale soon, very similar to mine (if anyone's interested give me a shout and I can pass details on!).

Geri.
