Pics of the RX7 in its first Race at Combe
Discussion
I know its a little late to post, but here are the pics from my first race at Castle Combe. We had had a few minor issues at the Ring a couple of days before hand, hence the missing part off the bumper!
And before anyone asks the arrow is pointing to where the tow hook is!

Next race is on Saturday, testing today showed a pit lane 1:19 and my watch having downloaded showed a 1:17!!! We are starting to fly

It may be a tad familar!
The good news is that all of the gaffa tape has now gone!! And the plan is to stay on the black stuff tomorrow, so hopefully no need to bring the roll out!
As you are so close you should wander down!!! Qualifying starts at 11 and the racing starts at 15:45
If it stays dry then its gonna be a close race!!!
The day was going absolutely fantastic.
Made it to Combe for 8 and unloaded the car from the trailer, first making a new set of ramps by sawing a large scaffolding plank in half!
Rich, one of the guys from Brunswick, started on the full spanner check whilst I faffed around chatting to the other guys in my category and drinking coffee!
11:15 and time for qualifying, noise testing was the usual embarrassment 97.8db (DB limit), having had a total disaster with testing on Thursday due to intercool pipes falling off, we went out with confidence that everything was going to work fine! It was rather tight out there as there were 29 people on the grid ranging from the likes of me in Cat D to a radical SR8 in Cat A, so as you can guess the speed differentials were huge! My class consisted of a Ferrari 355, Toyota MR2 turbo, Porsche 911, and 2 Ginettas as well as me in the Rex. The race is a rolling start, so the qualifying is in my eyes more important as you aren't allowed to overtake the person in front until you cross the line, and they dictate the pace up to that point.
Came in after 6 laps as the oil temps were alarming on the SPA, but 110 wasn't overly high so adjusted the alarm to 140!!
Still we managed a 01:17.858 which was 0.6 seconds off the pace of the 355 and second in class
The race wasn't until 15:50, so plenty of time for a wander round the circuit and get some sun. Another spanner check by Rich, and it was time for the race.
Sat on the grid with Keith to my right, but the car was suffering a bit. it had a bit of a misfire, but oil pressure was high, so everything was good. Safety car set off, and the lead car kept everyone bunched up right up until coming out of bobbies where the hammer went down! The pack split up but I kept Keith as close to my bumper as possible! On crossing the start finish line my only aim was to beat the 355 into quarry, so foot buried to the floor we overtook it going round the outside of Folly. We were now in the lead
However the engine then went bang coming up to Tower. So I lead my class for half a lap
So off to Carl Hayward for a new engine.....who ever thinks racing is cheap, then please come and pay some of my bills!!!
Will post some more pics when they come up on the various sites

Do you have a link to the specs for the championship you're racing in? Would be interesting to see how much it'd cost to make a racer from a tuned car
There aren't really many rules for racing in Special GT's
As long as it is a road going vehicle and as the manufacture intended...(single turbos are allowed!) then you are allowed in Cat D, otherwise it would have to go in Cat C
You will need
to get the fuel system sorted, so no exposed swirl pots or hoses
an FIA spec cage
a bucket seat with harness (need to be valid for up to this year)
electrical cut outs
fire system
and that is about it as a minimum
You can run any tyres you want, but I can get a set for about £200 for slicks and wets I run same size front and rear 17x 8J and therefore can run on touring car boots.
Oh and you will need an ARDS licence and join the club
Would be great to have another Rex there!!!

Hmmm. Sounds like somewhere in the region of 3-5k of work... shame Coombe is such a trek, wonder is Brands does something similar and if a car could be road legal and pass the regs...
You need to get a copy of the Blue book, and that will give you all of the info you need.
roll cage cost me almost £2.5k alone
12 wheels and tyres £2.5k
Fire system is only a couple of hundred along with the electrical cut outs.
So id make it £8k
But its worth every penny.....(although if you start considering pennies give up! everything ends in at least 2 noughts!)
