My unwell 200sx - Please Help Me!!

I have a ‘92’ 200sx s13 that has had the stage 1 chip fitted (before i bought it). It also has the free flow exhaust and dump valve. For the last few months it has been coughing and spluttering under fairly heavy acceleration. It is now doing it when it is cold and under slight acceleration (but not all the time).

I have replaced the Sparks with Platinum ones (spark gaps have been set), the Oxygen Sensor, the fuel filter (twice), cleaned out the fuel tank, replaced the ECU, checked the manifold for leaks. I am sure I have done more but can’t remember.

What do you think is happening? What do you think it could be?

I take it if you've got the stage one chip you've got some form of boost controller as it is mapped for 15psi. Assuming you are running it at 15psi and havent replaced the fuel pump it could be possible that its that, this is just guess work, mind you, might be better off asking over at sxoc.com.

I'd also check all the boost pipes and the intercooler for leaks, and check all round where the DV is mounted (mine came loose once, and had similar symptoms).

Where are you based? I have lots of spares (except the ecu) and you are more than welcome to come over and try out different hoses WMIC etc

And if you haven't already, have a search through the S13 Tech Section of the SXOC and if you still cant find anything, post up a question

smacks of either a boost leak or incorrect timing to me

I'd also get down in the passenger footwell and have a look at the ECU and see what chip it has fitted.

Explains very well how to get into the ECU and have a look.

He's actually down your neck of the woods aswell, so might be worth asking him what he thinks, although I know he's kept pretty busy with chips etc for the SXOC and his other job.

Have you checked the coil packs? Mine had the same problem, which was fixed by replacing one of the coil packs from a scrapped car.

I have not replaced the coil packs. Will look into that.

I have sent Jez from Horsham Developments an email. It is a Horsham chip on the board.

I will just have to keep replacing things until it gets better.

Do you think it could be the Fuel Pump?
