Subaru Impreza buying guide?

I'm looking to buy an Impreza. Hopefully 98+, UK car, totally standard with aircon and decent stereo, less than 80k miles for around 5-6k

Does anyone know of a buying guide for such a car? I saw the FAQ on the SIDC site but that's about it. I'm surprised there aren't more around?

To be honest, the SIDC website covers it pretty well. All you need to check for is the usual common sense areas. The only weak point really is the MAF sensor providing the car has been looked after and it will be blatantly obvious if the MAF sensor is on the blink

Try to get a MY99 or later. You should be able to for that money.
MAF sensor is not always obvious when it begins to fail, but they're not huge money to replace. (£80 or so)

I've had a couple of Scoobs now, and both have been supurb cars that have been very reliable (so far...), tolerably quick and easy to mod.

Thanks for the advice. MY99 looks usefully improved compared to 98. Problem is I would rather trade in than go for hassle of private ads to sell my MX5 and there aren't many in Surrey area according to Autotrader. Anyways, the search continues!

I did mention that I'd found the SIDC buying guide already although I never used the This forum/FAQs link before (could it have been any more obscure!?).

I'm surprised there aren't more around for the scooby. There were loads on the MX5 when I was buying one. Anyways, thanks for all your efforts. Hope to have a '99 on my doorstep soon! :-)
