looks like the solution for environment could be a hydrogen rotary engined version of MX5. just need to wait until 2010.

There was an interesting bit on Fifth Gear about a fuel cell vehicle being tested on a Japanese island on Monday. An island with 10m of rainfall a year meaning that they can only use 30% of their electricity being generated by their hydro-electric plant. They're using the remaining 70% to create emissions-free hydrogen. There was also talk of solar powered "home" stations to create hydrogen at home.

Mazda have a dual fuel hydrogen/petrol RX-8 with a turbocharged renesis engine in testing. I had a chat with their PR guy about it at the 2004 Tokyo Motorshow.

Unfortunately my pidgeon Japanese and his restraint in using what was rather good english meant all I could find out was it performed nearly as well on hydrogen as petrol and he wouldnt be drawn in to whether the turbo engine would make production.

If I remember I'll dig out the pics tonight.
