Seeking the opinion of people who hopefully know more about the market than I do!

Looking for an Integra DC2 at the moment and struggling a bit to work out what's a good price.

1998 Cars seem to sell privately for anything btween £8500 for an low mileage minter to £4500 for a high miles car in less good condition.

I've been offered 1998 'S' with 70'000 miles, as good a condition as one can expect for an 8 yr old non-show car, full service history (mostly Honda), lots of tax and a short MOT for £5500. I think this is a bit of a bargin but not very sure, anyone know the market well enough to tell me?

Cheers!

For gods sake drive it first, and drive at least one other for contrast. The fact is they are mostly 6-10 years old and the quality between those on offer varies hugely. A friend and I test drove two and one of them was just plain manky, and it was the one that looked better 'on paper'.

By the way; in the end i bought a late-2003 Clio 172 Cup and, after driving it, so did my mate. A better car for several reasons i can go into if you wish (at the risk of all the Teg DC2 fanboys savaging me again ), least of which they are nearly new cars that feel nearly new, unlike the Integras we saw.

I saw 2 integras a while back at the same price. One was mint the other shafted. You do get some monkey's trying it on.

Amen!!!

IMHO there's not much to call in the maintenance stakes between a good ITR and a similar-price 172:-
- the 172 has 'variable' build quality, indeed both the 172 demo I drove and the 182 demo 3 years later had leaking shocks (couldn't believe it - same fault in 2 near-new cars), and both felt 'adequately' screwed together. My best-friends brother-in-law's 'cooking' Clio has been back for warranty work about 5 times in a year, some quite significant. So I'd be scared of an out-of-warranty car!
- however, as I've said elsewhere, any DC2 now will be in need of some of the following:-*clutch
*synchro
*lsd (weak point - torsen-style, but not Quaife)
*dampers (stick to OEM, perfect balance for UK roads)
*bushes
...all of which could get very pricey, as Honda didn't skimp on components, hence the need to buy the most cherished and maintained one you can, almost regardless of miles.

And to be fair, the Clio is a very fun car to drive...I didn't like the driving position, but it was a hoot on the move.

If it's a decent example, that is a good price.
