Having a 2005 S2000 delievered on Friday. Can anyone recommend or suggest any modifications from standard which are worth the cost? I suspect it's not going to sound that great for example. Are there reasonable exhaust options?

Sound of the car is alright. Fairly docile below 6000rpm, but there is a noticeable change once you're in v-tec and then it turns into a great Banshee howl. The simplest mod for a better noise is to remove the airbox cover. Just unclip it to reveal the filter cone. The noise is fantastic, but it does hinder performance slightly and allow more crap into the filter.

The engine is pretty much as far developed as you are going to get without going down the forced induction route.

Air intakes are very hit and miss, with most claiming to give a slight BHP increase, but very few delivering any gain (more actually decrease) - although they do give a great induction roar.

Exhausts are fairly expensive (£450+ for rear section only) and the biggest gain that they offer tend to be weight saving over the fairly heavy standard system. Some do this by also offering one exit exhaust thus cutting a huge amount of weight. You'll probably notice a gain if you do the whole system - Manifold, De-Cat, but this obviously gets expensive.
Some of the exhausts can create a fanastic sound, but many complain about the drone and that it can sometimes sound a bit Chav!

Having followed lots of threads on S2KI I think the best bets for increased performance are Driver Training Course, Different Final Drive Ratio and possibly an ECU remap. The remap is again very hit and miss but some people have obtained better performance across a larger range in the rev band thus giving increased performance at lower RPM.

In short, You'll probably be better off sticking to standard for a while. I know that if I intend to keep the car for a long period and want more BHP I will save up for FI and probably stick a Supercharger on. This will cost upwards of £4500 but give c.300Bhp+.

Check out www.s2ki.co.uk UK section of S2K International. and www.s2kuk.com The UK S2000 Owners Club where members can get some discounts on aftermarket parts.

In short, any gains will be very minimal, but you can get some nice exhausts for sound

www.s2000library.com for exhaust noises!
