Skyline S/H Market
Discussion
Is it me or is the Skyline market totally dead at the moment.
I've had my R32 GTR up for sale for a while now and had virtually no interest at all, its been advertised on both the main Skyline forums and is for sale here on P/Heads. Its not like mine is a basket case, its an excellent example which needs nothing doing to it and is in great condition..

I think it's because there are so many being imported the market is saturated.
Yeh that seems to be a big problem and the fresh imports that need work are being sold really cheaply and it effects the cars that were imported some time ago and are now fully sorted...
I think Ebay is a big factor too as a lot appear on there at really low prices from traders who've obviously imported it cheaply to make a quick buck...

the GTR market is definately slow especially as there's so many to choose from.
i picked up a nye one mint R33 GTR for just shy of 14k.
on the contrast i've not had a problem selling my R32 GTST, sold in a few days
that was quick Stu.
Whens the crotch rocket coming then?

I think desirable GT-R's (V-spec, etc) will always attract the enthusiast willing to pay top money. Very nice GTS's will sadly get lumped in with all the other 'average' examples, no matter how good they are.
I'm afraid I have to totally disagree with you on that one.
I choose my GTST over GTR's, and I would say I'm an enthusiast. For what I have paid out I could have had a good GTR, but I just preferred the driving experience of my car over the GTR's that I drove, and I drove a lot.
I believe if a car is spec'd correctly and can do what it says it can do, people are willing to pay that bit extra, be it a GTST or GTR.
Unfortunately the market is swamped with £5k Skylines claiming to put out 400bhp and they have only got a performance exhaust and induction kit? These are the cars killing the market. People who don’t have that much knowledge about Skylines buy them. They then assume they have got a fast cheap car, don’t have a clue about what they have bought, spout a load of s*** in the pub about how fast it is, then when you explain to them the spec of your car and the costs involved to get to that spec the penny finally drops. These are the people screwing the market, because a true enthusiast with knowledge of Skylines understands the costs and what it takes to get a true 400bhp car and is usually willing to pay extra for a good one.
Just my opinion, from what I have written you can probably tell there are some right t**** that drink in my local.
I think that's more or less the point I was trying to make
With a lot of very average cars out there, Joe Public isn't able to sort the wheat from the chaff, and a genuine, well specced 400bhp car gets seen in the same light as the very average one. Only the 'obvious' ones stand out, like the v-specs for example.
I guess it's the old story of needing to be patient and waiting for the right buyer...

also, you need to factor in the high fuel costs, a lot of people are being put off 'performance' cars at the moment because of the added expense..
