Morning Guys,

I'm toying with the idea of changing the wheels on the S2000 and have three options.

1. Spoon Replica's (Rota Slipstreams) 17's
2. Refurbish current OEM 16's
3. DIY respray of current OEM's

I'm looking to go for a Matt Black finish with whatever option I choose (Car is Silver).

I suppose my question is really what do you reckon to the Spoon Replica wheels and does anyone have any experience of respraying wheels themselves and if so how to go about it.

Luckily all four wheels are in good condition with no kerbing although some have a little bit of corrosion.

Rota wheels are a bargain IMO (from rarerims) and are very light.

The slipstreams are very good looking wheels and in the black look mean and moody. I'm a big fan of black rims as they can really toughen up the look of car, and brake dust and road grime doesn't show up on black like it does on silver.

I think the 17s come in 7j and 8j, so you can have a staggered set-up (wider at the back).

I'd say spraying your wheels will be tricky and maybe not very durable.

Check the offset on the Rota's - IIRC the S has an unusual offset set-up, not too many rims that are a straight-swap.

But I don't think the OEM 16"s will look good sprayed black (I assume gloss black).

Cheers guys. The offsets on the Rota's should work (according to an offset calculator I found on S2KI) They are staggered 7j 8j as mentioned althought the rear tyre might be pinched slightly with the correct width. Price wise I reckon about £400 for the set of wheels plus 4 new tyres...

I would spray the OEM's Matt Black if I can and have seen a few piccies that look good.

although these are perhaps a little too shiney ^

these look almost anthracite

Here are the Rota's - I would go for the Matt Black 5 stud in 17's

How about the facelift 17" wheels prefer them to be honest

the MY04 ones or MY06 ones?

I think that they are fairly difficult to get hold off outside of a Main Dealer and I'd expect that the price would be prohibitive. Also, not keen on trying to make the car appear newer than it actually is. I like the fact that I have an early version before the suspension/handling was softened!

Having seen/heard more details of DIY spraying on S2KI, I think that I'll probably go for a dark grey/anthracite finish myself and see how that works. I'll be sure to post up some pic's when I get around to doing it!

What's the difference from the wheels on my 55 plate to the 06 plate? :S

People sometimes sell them on ebay mate, worth a try. But if you don't want it looking newer, fair shout.

There is a subtle difference between the two - its taken me ages to find good pics to illustrate.

Prefer the MY06. I take my 55 plate will be the top ones then?

I reckon a gunmetal wheel would look nice. I have Rota's on my Prelude and theyre really light considering they're 17's, I had mine powdercoated cost me 50 bux a rim.

Rich, check out Pie_n_Chips wheels on s2ki, they are nice dark gunmetal powdercoated OEM's, really make a nice difference. Also Burnie (SidewaysOnFire) has black 04 wheels. You can sometimes pick the 04's up on ebay here and there

Cheers Ian, I had a post running on S2KI a couple of days ago and saw Pie n Chips as well as admanirv123's. I'm hoping to be able to respray them myself in the coming weeks - assuming that the weather gets better!

Will also give eBay a look on MY04 wheels, although if I was going to buy new wheels I think I'd opt for the Rota Slipstreams - I love the look of the Spoon wheels and these are the closest I can get in my price range!

Right, personally i'd go for either the Slipstreams or some Arospeed jobby's. But if you're getting your wheels redone, make sure you get them painted NOT powdercoated. They will be far more resilient to any crap the road throws up. www.lap-tab.co.uk are very good and come with many recommendations.
