I have lived with this car for just over a year and think it's time for a change I think I will part ex.it as the market is so slow on these at the mo.My personal findings on this car have not been to good,I think they only really handle in nothing but dry conditions, the interior of the car is so dated I dont really want to take passengers. The car came with a blitz Nur-spec exhaust spec r and is far to loud, I realise this maybe to other peoples taste but its no longer my bag.Plus points are the car has been totally reliable thanks to the good old Toyota build quality, I guess really this car is dated and not very fashionable as some people do laugh at the looks of them. I think they have that image of big car small willy look about them. What do other owners think of these cars?Great in there day?Past it?Excellent cars?or just a joke!

Timely. I've just posted a thread about the Supra as a step up from an MR2 turbo.

I quite like the styling but they do need the right wheels to look good - the standard ones just don't do it justice. They also need to be subtle - no veilside bodykits or oversized spoilers etc

They look best in black IMO and in standard twin turbo guise. Big single turbo conversions are all very well on a drag strip but not so good on the road. For me turbo cars should be as responsive as possible, with minimal lag, otherwise they become a real pain to drive. I'm not so concerned with huge bhp figures if it means drivability is reduced.

You're right about the Blitz Nur Spec exhausts, they are too loud IMO - I've heard them at 3000 rpm on an MR2 and they are just too much for everyday use. I've got a Departure 2 on mine and it's great - growls but doesn't drone like some.

My only concern about the Supra is their size and weight. Away from motorways and dual carriageways, I wonder if they are as tactile and enjoyable to drive as an MR2 turbo.

ovbiously i am biased, but i love my supra, for the following reasons
1, Its quite rare copared to say bmw coupe or scooby
2, Its got more equipment than most beemers, elecric leather seats, air con etc
3, It will shit a good 90 percent of anything you pull up next too (so its not all show and no go)
4, The reliabilty is great
5, Its almost impossible to go faster for less
6, its toy you can use everyday, (i tried this in my tvr, which i loved but the novilty wheres piss thin when you have to de ice both sides off the screen!

i do agree some look well over the top,(the ones, with more wings than a 747!)

I must admit it tends to be marmite car, some people love and want to go for spin, and some think youre sad barstard, Still love mine!

I own a UK-spec Twin Turbo and I've had it for 6 years. The reason I've had it for 6 years is because it still makes me smile every time I drive it.
Everyone's tatse in cars is different and that is great because you see all sorts of shapes and sounds.
The Supra does handle.... I've had mine on the Nurburgring and have done very respectable times...(for a public open day with traffic that is).
The J-specs come with harder suspension and this will make those cars more suited for the dry to the detriment of wet weather handling. But the UK-specs come with a better allround setup IMO.
Very true that they look silly with too much body-kit and the standards alloys don't suit the car too well... but all this can be changed to you own liking via customisation.
The 6-speed gearbox is nicely ratio'd and as you've already said they are very reliable. The engines are easily tuned and you can get good bhp gains for little money.
As with most big BHP RWD cars, driving them in proper wet conditions will take more driver skill to drive fast. But thats all part of the thrill of having a car such as the Supra for me.... I'm not one to let electronics and varying 4WD diffs do all the work for me... I like to be as involed as possible.

All these reasons are why I've still got mine with no real intention of selling in the near future.
Sorry to hear you are not enjoying your J-spec GZ model. Are you a member of the MKivSupra.net website by the way? If you think you've got problems with your car or are thinking of upgrading areas of it then take a look at the resourses available on the site.

Apart from the exhaust my car is a standard silver one with a good service record and at present with no faults.I suppose really I've just fallen out of love with this car, obviously colour and mods to a car are a personal pref,I dont think silver does the car any justice it just makes it look even bigger than it is,light colours on cars seem to do this. The car is quick in a straight line but take it out on any demanding A or B road and a smaller less powerful car will be all over it,and dont mention wet weather,At anything more than reasonable its poor this could be just down to being a GZ model? But thanks for advice regarding the Supra club.

An awful lot of traction issues can be dialled out of the car with the correct parts and tyres. Also the Racelogic really is a great piece of kit.

I have had both, the MR2 is a great car, but the Supra is a superb piece of engineering. Like everything it depends what you want from the car.

Oi,

I have heard alot af talk of Jap cars having bad interiors, but I dont know what people are talking about??

I've been in Alfa's, BMW's, Merc's, Range Rovers, New Minis (hideous inside IMO), old minis and alot of other stuff, and I didn't notice any difference. If a dash isn't made of plastic, what is it made of??

But back on topic, I love the look of the Supras. They weren't designed to be all out sports coupes, but more big, comfortable, fast as hell GT cars. Which they are.

edit: They were great in their day, and still are. And no-where near a joke

I'm sure it handles well in the wet, too. Or are you getting grip and handling confused?

I know guys that have chopped in newer cars to buy Supra's. I have never heard or thought about them being a joke.

Great cars.

I know my Supra is only the N/A version, but everytime i see it, let alone drive i love it, people always turn their head to look at it, kids give thumbs up when i drive past; and my car is probably the skankiest supra going needs a repspray ideally, new wheels, skirts.... lets just say i need to find a wodge of cash to get it where i want it, but even with all that love it, its a true classic of jap automotive history.
