Yes, I hate myself, it has really come down to this - My first post on the Jap Chat forum!

Woe is me!

Anyhow it goes like this, I bought a really cheap Nissan Almera 2.0 GTI 16V with a view to selling it on. 120K 1997 £450.

Bargain i hear you say, anyhow, got the thing home a couple of weeks ago, completely standard apart from a new G-Max suspension kit and a £400 Clifford alarm and in nice nick, I have taken it out for a couple of blasts and I have to say - this thing is so f@*"ing good!

It just hoons around the lanes like a little go kart, I have done some research and the engines are virtually bombproof with no cambelt to worry about and strut-braced front and rear from factory.

This car really does lend itself to just being the track toy of abuse.

So if I decide to keep it, who are good people to talk to in reference to tuning i.e. just getting it breathing better, a roll cage etc.

I don't want to go all Max Plummer, just make it better.

Stick in a Pulsar GTi-R sr20det engine into it! That would be an interesting track car.

There are loads of places on line that you can buy kit from, that you can fit your self.

Induction kit and a decent decatted exhaust would be a good start.

I would strip it too!

All that you can do your self.

Would the Almera transmission bolt straightto the SR20DET or would you need to keep the Pulsar transmission, ergo making the Almera 4wd, and creating a massive ballache?

In my extremely un-experienced opinion, I see no reason why not.

Surely the SR20 block has the same pattern for mating up to the bell housing, its just whats inside thats different.

Dawsey from the GT4OC has a 3S GTE lump mated to his AE92 Corolla 'box (I think )

Someone with more knowledge is welcome to say I'm an idiot and wrong though

How much power do you need? Keep it cheap. Strip everything out, just have two buckets. Get the engine breathing better, better brakes, better tyres, fit a rollcage and enjoy for not much doe. The if it holds up ok for a few trackdays and you still like it, get the plastic out for some major engine work.
