Mk1 Eunos (MX5)

Hi All,
I recently acquired a 1990 MX5 (Eunos import) from a mate for err less money than a packet of crisps. It has been sitting in a garage for 8 months and had a cut in the roof where it had been broken into.
Anyway, 1 battery, a centre console surround, a foglight and a good wash and it sailed through an MOT needing just a numberplate bulb.
Its Silver and is suffering from the flakey paint syndrome but nothing that cant be sorted.
What i gotta say though is.. What a great little car. Yep it looks a err touch feminine but what a great load of fun at less than warp speed.
Considering i also own a TVR i expected the little MX to be a bit tame but it is one ace drive. You barely need to slow down for any size bend (in the dry). You can see why Mazda sold about a trillion of them!!
I tell you something, im sure the MX5 is the answer to speeding issues. Cause 80-90mph feels like about 180.
Does make you wonder why cars are getting bigger and bigger and the feeling of speed is declining just as fast. The government lets us drive these huge super safe cars that feel parked at 100 (private runway m'lord!) and then fine the backsides off us when we drive too fast..
Back to subject, if you can handle your mates calling you a hairdresser (if you're a bloke that is) i would recommend an early MX5 to anyone..
(Though i may Turbo mine just cause its so daft! :-) )

Nice one, agree with you about the speed sensation, being such a small car low to the ground it's a bit like driving a big go-kart and certainly handles like one! Nice to hear of people rescuing MX-5's from the scrapyard, even the oldest ones are perfectly serviceable with a little TLC.

I`ve said all this for years, much more fun to get a small car going quickly through the bends, than to have 350 or more, Bhp under your right foot.
I know all about the torque issue but that`s not DRIVING to me.
Shame there were`nt more on the last Tunnel Run, only little me. some of you may have caught sight of me, sorry not to make the end but we got lost and tired, so whent of early, maybe next time.

I fully recommend upgrading the Anti-roll bars.... Before the upgrade it was great but my shoulder rubbed on the ground in long corners. Now however!
It appears mine has had the odd upgrade in its time. Noticed it has a full stainless exhaust and uprated shocks.
And has a rather nice wooden steering wheel and gear knob.
May need a clutch soon though. going a bit soft.
On the Tunnel Run front, i was on one with my TVR back in Feb hope to be on one soon maybe in the MX if i can make it loud enough.

I bought an early MX5 6 years ago because a friend needed to get rid of it quick and it was cheap. When I bought it, I was just going to sell it for a quick profit. However, I still have it and now have no plans to change it. I also have a TVR ( and other things ) but still look forward to a blast in the MX. The answer to the hair dresser problem : "Actualy, I bought it off a hair dresser" usualy works. Otherwise lend them the keys for half an hour, they always comeback with a smile on their face.
