A rather nice NSX is for sale in my area, or so I think.

It's a steal, at $29,000 (£16,248 for the majority of you)

However, it's a '92 model (I believe that's the first year they were released) and it has 65,000 miles on it.

Is this an accident waiting to happen, or a wicked good find? I hear the NSX is figuratively bulletproof, and quite reliable. It also needs a major servicing at 60,000 miles, which this car has already had. (Less money for me to spend!)

What do you folks think? Any horror stories or experiences? Thanks much!

Put it this way, if that car at that price came up here, the Supra would be in the classifieds in seconds.

You can get them cheaper than that here Gaz, there's 4 on autotrader for less than £16k.

Cant comment on American market residuals, but certainly they are extremely well built cars. Think Honda, then think Honda with even more effort put into quality and reliability. Servicing is not as expensive as any comparable vehicles (eg Porsche) and parts are pretty reasonable - the parts that aren't reasonable can be replaced with non-OEM bits and there are several companies in the states which would be happy to supply NSX parts. Most of all, they are a fantastic drive, just avoid the auto.

Don't worry about miles. Apparently Honda used to get 200,000+ out of the press cars before they needed much attention. The only consumable you might chew through is clutches. I'd think every 30-40,000 miles it would need a new one, and I'd think over there a dealer would charge around $2,000 for a clutch change. Well worth finding out when the last one was done. As for other work, you can download the workshop manual from nsxprime, and a chap called Mark Johnson at www.daliracing.com can get great deals on pretty much anything you need.
Buy it and enjoy it!

one thing to be weary of is clutches. they eat them by all accounts, and they're not cheap to fix.
fantastic cars though, i will have one sooner or later once i'm past the skyline stage.

I can happily say this is not the case.... my car has covered 55k miles on its current clutch and the garage pronounced it not worth replacing when they last worked on it as it was only half worn. The key (as with most of these types of cars) is to use sparingly - I never do standing starts or ride the clutch in traffic.
