1). Get the best example you can afford - as someone recently said, if you can't afford to buy an expensive one, you can't afford to run a cheap one. Very few unmodified, good place to find one is on the owners clubs classifieds from true enthusiasts.
2). Fast, fragile if badly modded/treated/serviced.
3). 156mph.

What Steve said really. All I'd add is if you want a high BHP one buy a pre modded one as it's far cheaper than buying unmodded and doing the work yourself. However make sure the work has been done properly (preferably by a recognised tuner)

For one with a large single turbo like a T78 or T88 you can get top speeds of 180mph+ but turbo lag might be an issue but standard as Steve says 156mph is about it.

The engine is great - make sure one you buy has had a rebuild recently and you should be fine. Join either/both of Mazda Rotary Club or FDUK and you will find a mine of useful info to help you.

I went from a 4.5 Cerbera to an RX and you'll never get the torque but a modded RX on a 0 to 100 dash will keep a Cerbie company and I think the RX handles better...

All the best

Depends how long you want it to take to get there really. I only have about 330hp ish, and ive hit the shift up buzzer in 5th.
