Morning all, I have a 'cheap and cheerful' primera egt 2.0 16v that i'd like to turn into a track day car. However it's only got 150 bhp and i guess the best way to get much more bang for my bucks is to get a turbo fitted. The engine is the same as the 200sx i believe and of course these have the all important turbo?

Has anyone turbo'd one of these or know of anyone who has or could turbo it for me?

Also, importantly, how much would it cost to get the work done?

anything else i'd need to consider - other than my sanity!

regards

Hi, It would be very expensive to just turbo your engine, you will need new pistons etc. The best way to go and most cost effective way to go would be to buy a 200sx engine becuase you already have then the ecu, wiring and ofcoarse the turbo. These are easy to find in smashed cars etc. Then all you would need to do is have a transplant.

If you call my number on 01884 266243 and ask for Phil i can see what we can do for you, RE Pricing etc. Glad if i can be of any help.

The other option is SR20VE, allthough it might be more expensive and less powerful than the DET option, especially if you get a smashed SX and part out the rest afterwards.

I just finished parting out a smashed Primera GT that I bought for the engine - it basically paid for the whole thing. (though I think I got a bit of a bargain with that car TBH)

Not sure think its a jap job - it's the SR20DE but with variable valve timing.

thx aldi - where did you source your primera? private sale, scrappers or a salvage auction? where's the best place to look for a 200?

Yup, I'd steer clear of the notion of turbo'ing the Primera engine - an engine from either an 180sx or a 200sx is your best bet.

Although, on the whole I think you'd be better just getting rid of the Primera and picking up a cheap 180sx if you're wanting to build a track slag.

Got my primera off eBay! You quite often find people breaking cars on there. The one I got was advertised as just the engine, it only transpired after the auction that it was still in the car, did I want to take the whole car? Failing that you've got places like this www.car-transplants.co.uk/carsframe.asp allthough they don't seem to have any SX's at the mo.
