...I'd never find the one I wanted. It had been seven months of waiting since selling my Punto any buying my new car but I have to say it was worth the wait.

But I do have a few questions.

What service intervals do they have?
Can I get a gearknob that is identical to my Nardi one but in S/S?
And what's the best (and not too expensive) induction kit around for it?

Yes I know I should be out on a Saturday night but I have lots of coursework to do

Nice '5, very similar to mine! Not exactly sure what the service intervals are, probably 10,000 miles or so? (someone will be along to correct me in a moment). Best induction kit is anything that seperates the filter from the hot air in the engine bay With regards to your Nardi gearknob it might help if you post a pic.

Nice MX5 which varient is it? I'm quite interested in '5s,You mentioned that you'd spent some time looking for this specific model/condition.If it's not an imposition, could you fill in a few of your reasons for this particular model.Thanks.

The Apexi cone filters are very good, require no oiling etc &,imo, are the best performers at their price point.

This doc has been floating around for some time now, but you get the idea.-not all prices accurate btw.

Cheers. It's a Mk2 1.8i Sport

I waited all that time because I wanted the right car with the right miles to come along. I wanted one in red and it pretty much had to be a 1.8 Sport (though a good loaded 1.6 in same spec would have done) but ideally I wanted the full fat one (if you can call it that) complete with slippy diff.

I originally would have liked a mint Mk1 but I just couldn't find one in good enough condition that wasn't a fortune, so when I sold my Punto, the hunt was on for a Mk2.

What is actually the better car to go for betwixt the Mk1 and the Mk2?

Nice looking motor, its worth the wait to get the right car. I searched for 3 months to get the exact spec car I wanted. Happy motoring....

That looks great! I only recently completed my search for a perfect Mk1, although I managed to strike lucky after just a month of looking.

2 weeks and 1500 miles later, I'm still grinning!

The Mark 1 is lighter and has more of a 'fun' character, the Mk2 is more grown up and has more. I prefer the look of the Mk1 myself. Drive both if you really want to know. They are different in feel but are both great cars.

This month's evo has an article on the 3 generations of MX5. Personally the Mk1 is the only one I'd go for, not a fan of the Mk3 styling at all

Mk2 is better but loses some of the purity of the original design.

are you sure it's the sport? it looks like my old car (1.8iS) the reason i say is that i was under the impression that the sport only came out with the revisions (ie Mk 2.5)
does it have heated leather/6speed box/bilsteins/braced chassis/big brakes

i had a lot of fun with my '99 car, fantastic car.

btw i have a sport myself atm, look on the profile for piccies.

you have definately done the right thing though.

Pretty sure you will find the 'S' from 1.8is, stands for 'Sport'.

That's kind of what I though. When my car was new, it was the Sport.

Oh and here's a picture of me knob

9000 miles is the usual interval, I tend to change the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles and these like a good drink of Fully Synth 0w40w or a good quality Semi-Synth 10w40w

Have a look at www.donutz.co.uk for gearknobs or www.mx5parts.co.uk which do loads of aftermarket OEM equipment for the 5.

Racing Beat do a great induction kit for the 5, also RSpeed and K&N Typhoon induction kit, can be found for the 5 second hand, just sold my induction kit as Im fitting a turbo.

As for all this Sport confusion, the 1.8iS edition had ABS, Limited Slip Diff plus other extras, but there was a "Sport" Edition released, this just had a few extra bodybits and some front facing fog lights, to go with all the standard "iS" kit.

Get it lowered, get some Toyos, and get it aligned, then go and have some twisty fun! :-)

I know i'm banging on about this, but with respect juzzyp, that is completely incorrect. as stated before, the "Sport" model has bilstein's, braced chassis, 6 speed gearbox, heated leather seats, bigger brakes, bigger/better wheels and tyres and a myriad of smaller changes. I should know, i have owned both an iS and a SPORT, the difference is night and day between the two.

Anyway, i agree that all this tooing and froing about spec is boring, enjoy your cars everyone!!!!!

Maybe I should've mentioned I was talking about the MK2 only, don't take things so personally,

I was referring to the MK2 model (99-00)....pay attention 007, they did release a "Sport" model in the 99-00 times.
